cardboard tube ladder

i was wondering if i could use cardboard tubing from the paper towel, cut it in half and punch holes in it so they can climb it to a second level.
the only thing is i cant think of a way it wouldnt get soggy at the bottom in the ee.. does anyone have any suggestions

I wouldn't use Cardboard... it will mold and get soggy and the herms might eat it and God knows what chemicals are in it. Good idea though.

do you have any other suggestions then? that i can find around the house or at a dollar store

Choya wood is cheap and they love it! or you could get a stick from outside, soak it in tripple strength salt water for 3 days and then bake it for like 15 minutes

i have yet to find choya wood from anywhere around here... and its currently snowing here so there are no sticks that arent under 4 inches on snow

You could try the internet for cholla. The alternative is a basket or a net they could climb. Or break off live branches on the trees (safe trees only of course).

well i was going to... but shipping is like 28$, so thats canceling out the cheapness.
would you get sticks from deciduous trees or coniferous... probably deciduous right?

Yes, leafy trees only. But there are some leafy trees that aren't good...like alder. But maple would be a good choice. Cottonwood, aspen, and birch are good. Not sure what trees you have.

there are tons of poplar trees here and some birch as well.. i'll go looking when it's not -10 outside
