Pictures of a fake rock wall I'm building

Post by tnt4eva » Sat Aug 14, 2010 2:52 am

I started out with a sheet of plastic (it's made the same as corrugated cardboard for boxes, but out of plastic instead) and then I sprayed it with spray foam. The foam is used for household repairs. It's 4ft long

When the front is concreted and cured, I'll turn it over, remove the plastic, concrete the back and wait for that to cure, then cut the whole thing into 3 sections (or it'll be too heavy), concrete the newly exposed edges, paint it and then coat it with some West System epoxy and wait for that to cure. Then I'll add the air plants and ferns. Oh, and I still have to make a base for it.

You can't see it in these photos, but all the bits that jut out are hollowed out so that I can put plants in there

I did something similar for a fish tank once. I had to soak and rinse the background FOREVER!
I don't think you will have to do that for a Crabitat... since it wont change the ph of the entire tank as it would with fish :D
Yours looks a lot better than the one I made years ago

Coconut husk instead of concrete or with concrete?

I was just wondering how you'd get it to stick.

Very cool looking wall. I just got a 36G bowfront and I am so tempted to try this. How long in total did this take you?
