Acu-rite very unconsistent. Help!!!

I also want to post this in the Emergency selection as I feel like my crab may die as the result of this thing. I can't sleep ecause I'm so worried.
I bought the Acu-rite Dig Hygrometer/ Thermometer a few days ago and calibrated over nite. It read a solid 65% the whole time. I put it in my main tank it read 70% + 10% = 80% so it looked like a reliable 10% low. OK I can work with this. Apparently I had forgot about the 10% thing and i've been reading it at 80-85% thinking all was good. I remember when it hit 87% in the middle of the night it was off 10%, so it was 97%!!!!!! I immediately ripped off the plastic I had attached to my lid. These are my LHC crabs!!! Decided to recalibrate the hygrometer and right now its showing 77% after a few hours. So the thing is running high now? Everything was okay and I shouldn't have ripped my plastic off? Is this normal? Is it suppose to take a few days before it starts working properly? Every gauge I have ever bought has been very unreliable, how is this possible? I have no idea what the humidity is in my tank right now and I'm freaking out. Please help.

Oh no!

I just bought an Acu-Rite and it's been reading kind of low to me. I haven't calibrated it yet, but I feel like my crabitat has been higher than what it's reading (for humidity and temperature). :dontknow:

I'm going to try calibrating it now to see what's up.

And I agree with you, it's really hard to find a thermometer/hygrometer that maintains accuracy. :( A lot of them aren't very reliable, it seems. :x

the best advice i could give you, is to get another one. it sounds excessive, but i usually keep 2 or 3 in each tank because i just dont trust thermometers/hygrometers, even after calibration. i usually try and figure a good average of the ones i have in the tank.

Being high wont hurt that much. Remember, they live in the wild where it rains. When it rains, it gets higher then 100%

It re-calibrated at 74%. WTH? I'll just have to use my best judgement on the humidity. I really don't want another broken gauge, I got enough of those.
Its not so much the humid swings but staying at a constant 90%+ is not good for them. I believe all is good right now.

I bought this one as well and it seemed very off when I first put it in. I was going to calibrate it the next day, but it was turned off! I couldn't get it back on and I even put new batteries in! I'm returning it and trying a different one.
