HCA: Hermit Crab Association

OK, I need some help. I've got a standard 36" long 40 gallon breeder that I got on craigslist, but unfortunately it doesn't have a lid. Right now I have an oversized piece of glass on there, but I was wondering, what is a simple and cheap solution to building or buying a lid for cheap? Thanks!

The simplest and cheapest would be a standard screen lid from the pet store, they're generally 10-20$. You can cover them in saran wrap or duct tape freezer bags onto them to hold in humidity
But the best solution would be to custom cut a piece of plexiglass (which can be done at a reasonable price at home hardware/depot/rona type stores) and drill some air holes in it, and maybe glue on a handle. An even better (but more expensive) solution is a full blown hood style aquarium lid and lights, which work wonders, but cost a pretty penny. But if you have the money, they help so much with holding heat and humidity (and the lights can provide more heat)

You can make a lid out of wood and corrogated plastic. Build a frame out of wood (feel free to stain it to your desired colour) and then nail / staple on some coroplast (brand name). I am using that for my 180 gallon. I stained fingerling wood (its cheaper then the other wood) and then nailed on the plastic. I made a section with a wood divider and some mesh for air flow.

I made mine out of window screw materials. Basically I made a custom window screen that fit inside the top of the terrarium. It was held in place by a window pressure keeper. You can get kits at home depot.
