Bearded Dragons

Post by Hermiecrab » Wed Nov 24, 2021 1:52 pm

I was wondering if anyone on this forum had a beardie :D I want to get one once I have the room/research done, but I was wondering what to expect for monthly and yearly fees, and vet checkups? :-? Thanks in advance!

I had one for a year. Thought I was doing everything right, but I think he got “impacted” and couldn’t um…”go potty” no vets on my town to help him.

I loved having him he was great. I fed mine live crickets, mealworms, Dubai roaches. Have to dust food with calcium powder and tried to get him to eat veggies but he didn’t like anything I put in there

Aww, I'm sorry for the loss, I'm sure you were doing your best. Just a quick question, I'm not sure I would be able to spend, say 80 dollars per month! I'm looking into breeding superworms/crickets/both if I end up getting one. Have you ever tried this?

I tried to breed crickets but I wasn’t really able too. I had found some online sources that were not really expensive I’ll see if I can find them again

This is one of the places I used to buy from. In colder months I would have to pick up from the post office but I didn’t have any complaints about them being alive once I got them. Just have to have a good plastic bin with air holes in the lid to keep them in.

Crickets can be found on Amazon at decent prices.

Md you can get any brand of water gel beads from the garden department to make it easier to keep the feeder bugs hydrated

:D Thanks for the help!

Edit: Wow! that's much cheaper than amazon, a thousand superworms on there are over 40 dollars.

Something to consider is adopting an adult that someone no longer wants. They get rehomed frequently, usually with half decent setups, for a decent price. Older reptiles who have been handled are easier to work with and have less risk of congenital issues showing up out of nowhere, and adult beardies should have transitioned to a mostly plant diet which won't be as expensive. Baby beardies require an insane amount of insects while they are growing.
