So my first day back home (Auke Bay, AK), I went for a walk on the beach to try to find some shells for my hermies and I came across a HUGE hermit crab (Godzilla sized or a small jumbo)! I have never seen a hermit crab on the beach that was any larger than my thumb nail, but here was a giant dead one on the beach in front if me!!
And then, it's antenna twitched. It was alive!! But barely. The poor thing had been high and dry for quite some time. I brought it to a tide pool and about half an hour later, it was filtering water and moving around!!
His eyes are neon yellow and his exo is iridescent colors! He's so pretty!
This is when I first put him in the tide pool:
After he was up and moving, I took him out for a second to get some pics that weren't through water:
In the tidepool:
I didn't want him to get eaten by a bird or something else while he was still weak, so I packed him and ten gallons of water up from the beach. I got some bubbles going in the tank, some algae, and I have extra salt water from the beach stored in the fridge to replace water until the next low tide. He's in the shop where it's cool. I expect he is from the deeper water, so I have to wait until the water is all the way out tonight before I let him go. Hopefully, he will be rested.
Look at those colors!!
Bonus pictures:
Such a patient dog.
Eagles started to circle me. It was creepy.
Look what I found!!! omg...
