It's looking like we may have reached the end of Peach's journey. Woke up this morning to her having a severe rectal prolapse. I don't think she's going to make it through this. We take her to the vet at 4, but I'm not hopeful he can do anything but end her suffering. :crybaby:

Oh no
poor Peach! The iggy group has often recommended warm sugar water soaks for prolapse in iguanas... I wonder if that would help with sneks?

When I found her I immediatelu called my friend who does reptiles and that's what she said, too. It shrunk it, but it's not a 'normal' prolapse - there are multiple lobes out and the tissue has split in places. With her spinal deformity - fusion and bone growths - her digestive tract is already compressed, so I'm not sure it can worked back in.

Hoping for this poor little thing to pull through. You never know about these things.....just ask the dog with strychnine poisoning.

There was nothing that could be done. It was severe damage. The vet seemed happy I asked if he would anesthetize and pith - which is the fastest way to euthanize a reptile without pain - so she went quick without suffering. I was able to hold her the entire time. We're going to contact some veterinary colleges and see if they'd be interested in her since her disease is so rare. She was a class pet, so it seems fitting in a strange way.

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. It is good that she went quickly without suffering, and you rescued cared for her all these months despite the deformity. Hopefully she might contribute to research to save another animal some day.

I'm so sorry, Wode. I know it's never an easy decision but it sounds like you made the right one. hugs

I'm sorry she didn't make it. At least she passed peacefully and painlessly, and with someone who gave her the chance at life she deserved.

So sorry to hear about Peach
. She had a wonderful second chance at life with you and your hubby and really thrived under your care but, as you've often noted, her disease was so severe that her life span was going to be shorter than expected for a corn snake.

PPs are Big Enzo, Charles Paris and Mr Pinch
