Ok, I couldn't help but share these pics I snapped of Bacon the other day. I forgot all about them until just now when I was cleaning up my albums here on my phone. She was being really cute! She's been one happy, happy mouse since I moved Cheeseburger back in with her and Hashbrown.

CallaLily, I'd been following your reports on poor Twix's tumor but when did you lose her?

Nov 3.

At that point she was having more and more trouble getting around, walking in a weird hunched-hop motion. She was sleeping more and more. And worst of all, she was hurting herself. Pulling/pushing/grooming the tumor so much she was ripping open the skin at the back of it. I knew it had reached a point where I couldn't just sit by and watch her suffer. The vet agreed.

Poor sweet girl! My condolences, CallaLily, but I'm glad to see that Cheeseburger is doing well back with Bacon and Hashbrown.

Poor baby :( I'm sorry for your loss but I'm glad she's not suffering any longer. I lost a female rat years ago to a mammary tumor, and it broke my heart.

Bacon is adorable - she has the cutest little butt!

Thank you, guys. It wasn't something I could talk about for a while. It's getting easier though.

Cheese is doing pretty good. She did suddenly get very thin. I thought I was going to lose her and so soon after Twix, but with a little extra love she's doing better. Put on a little weight and is more active. I think losing Twix and then suddenly placed with a new group had her stressed. I just gave her extra attention and nightly feasts of soft, warm foods. Things like cooked oats, rice, quinoa, scrambled eggs, that pumpkin pie I made. She and Bacon are at least around 19 months old (best guess), so I had thought her age had caught up with her. Thankfully it seems she's going to be ok now. Bacon and Hashbrown have been very sweet with her. I was worried because Cheese used to be a bit of a bully to Bacon but in their older, calmer state they are getting along great. Adding Cheese has certainly put a pep in Bacon's step, as seen in the above photos. :)

Bacon passed away sometime during the night. I had noticed she seemed a bit off the day before and she was getting up there in age, so it wasn't a complete shock. I'm glad I have those pictures I shared above to look back on. She was so happy and playful that day. It comforts me to know her last month was a happy one and that she did get to enjoy some of her Christmas treats too.

 The only bad thing about rodents is how long they are with us.

My condolences, CallaLily. It sound like Bacon's last day and quiet passing was very like my Tara's -- the loss is very painful for us but seeing them happy with their sisters until the end makes it a little easier to bear.

I'm so sorry. :( It sounds like she went peacefully though, and I'm glad she had a good last couple of weeks and such a good life with you! Sending hugs to you!
