I was on vacation and the hermie is so small in it's shell, I thought it was a vacant shell. When I came home and washed off my shells and such I noticed I had a hermit crab. I am one who rescues animals and release them once they are strong enough and big enough, usually reptiles and small mammals around my house after hurricanes. Of course I will need to keep this one.

A marine hermit needs a full cycled saltwater aquarium. Set up costs will be a couple hundred dollars to start. There is no shame in asking a pet shop that deals in marine if they will take him, or listing him on craiglist or similar to someone who already has a tank. It takes weeks to months before an aquarium is animal safe, and they take a lot of maintenance as well. It is not as easy as buying salt mix and putting him in a tank of water.
It's likely a thin striped hermit crab.

Thank you.

Yup. Thats a thin stripe. I used to have one in my older reef tank. Itll get large enough that you'll need a pretty big saltwater tank to keep him happy. Mine also liked to move all of my corals around. So he had to go to the fish store
