New Furry Addition!

Post by DevilNDisguise » Tue Oct 15, 2019 10:42 pm

His name is Tomato. (Odd, but my girlfriend thought it fitting, since we have a LH that we adopted named Potato.)

Image

He's been at my work for a few weeks now. Came in with a strange head tilt and clearly wasn't able to see very well; we think he's blind in at least one eye.

Well, he got treated by a vet for a supposed ear infection and the head tilt got better, but he can still act a little derpy. The vet assumed he has permanent brain damage/neurological issues from the infection. But once the tilt improved, he got put out for adoption.

A problem customer came in tonight and showed interest in him (someone who gives up animals constantly only to make room for new ones, but doesn't even house them properly), and my girlfriend knew she had to have him, so here he is at last, at his new home!

Congrats on the new little one! i would love to see some pics of the setup, as rats have always been something that interests me.

He is so cute! I thought it was a rat at first. Is it a rat or a hamster? I had a pet rat a long time ago, they’re really great pets.

It's a hamster, haha! Although I do have 3 rat sisters as well.

This little guy is in a 10g temporarily until we can get a cage topper on Friday, so his setup is a bit boring at the moment.

Oh. Haha, looks like a rat, never seen hamsters in that colouration... actually, never seen hamsters. They aren't legal to keep in Australia.

That's crazy, I had no idea they were illegal there! But yeah, he does have an interesting color pattern. They're usually all dark brown/black, oftentimes with some white in them, but he's definitely unique.

ETA: (At least these types of hamsters...)

First, I’m no mod.
Second, that seems really harsh, and totally uncalled for. Even if it wasn’t in the ‘other pets’ section, who cares? We all love animals here, or at least I thought so...

Now- Third- congrats on your new friend! Love the name, and I had to giggle when you said he’s still kinda derpy. That gives them character doesn’t it? Image Enjoy!

Thank you for your kind words! Tomato has definitely settled in nicely over these past few months, and he's so very quirky! Love him so much.
