Fids - one with eggs, one with something else entirely

So I got up this morning and discovered that one of my big female fids has a big egg mass - aka a sponge or berry. Check it out!

And I thought this was funny last night - I threw some smelt in there, and she snagged one and dragged it WAY up out of the water on a log to eat it by herself. Usually they drag them INTO the water.

They are turning out to have as much personality as the hermies, just in a different direction.

Really cool pics! :glasses2:

How big are fiddler crabs? I've been wondering that. :)

Neat!

I was sad to see today that the Walmart near me is selling them as if they can be added into any FW fish tank--no mention of burrowing/molting or the need for land. :(

The last ones I bought from Petsmart, and the girl in the fish department told me THEIR crabs were fresh water and would die if I took them home to my brackish tank. I hate that no one respects crabs enough to give decent instruction on raising them.

They're about 1.5 to 3+ inches in total length. :)

The carapace on the one with the sponge is around the size of a nickle - maybe slighly larger, but not much.

I'm really enjoying the little boogers - but they are a lot like hermies in that the minute I walk over to take a closer look they dive into their burrows or behind a rock. I can't tell you how many times I've stood there going "Hey! Where do you think the food comes from?!?" as they scatter and run from the giant hand.

I never realized how small they were, though.
