Those specs are dirt. The babies are white and transparent. They kind of look like mites so do not squash any if you see some! In the past two weeks they have started to darken.

Omg. My eyesight is horrible! Lol! Hopin I will be able to tell what's dirt and what's isopod when I'm transferring them into our bigger tank!

Update. I put my first round of isopods into the crab tank. I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens. It also just occured to be that I am really going to have to look at the food I remove from the tank. I do not want to throw out any little guys.

U Just put them in one by one or scoop up a few and put them in?

I think I put in about 10. They were all on a wood chip so I put them in the tank. At the moment I do not see any but they have good hiding places.

Isopod update. The breeding has stopped. They little guys are no longer little and are quite large! What am I doing wrong?

I purchased from Isopod Connection also. Great customer service, packaging, and isopods! Crabbycakes- looks like you have skirted, normal isopods. You might have taken too many from the colony and that might be why they quit breeding. Also, they are very similar to hermit crabs. They need humidity. Possibly you are leaving lid off for too long watching them? Not sure. Good luck! Wolfnipplechips has a really informative care guide on isopods in the forums. Check it out. :). Good luck!

I am not sure about your isopods, but they took longer to really start breeding than I expected. They finally are starting to thrive.
