Current tank arrangement-bigger pools :)

Post by Rawrgeous » Mon Oct 10, 2016 7:44 am

It's been awhile since I've added a pic of my set up, so I took a few pics after I added in my new pools...again, as I felt my other ones weren't deep enough for Mrs. Robinson.

Nice pool upgrade! Mrs Robinson has very good taste in shells -- my large guy, Big Enzo, has been wearing that same shell for about 18 months and won't give it up. No one else wants it as it's too big for the other three but he always holds on to it when trying on other shells in fear that it'll be snatched away  .
PPs are Big Enzo, Charles Paris and Mr Pinch
On the Big Beach in the Sky: Murray, Gino, Oscar, Gordon, Ignatz, Harry and King Felix the Pale

Wow! What an awesome set up you have. Do you have a lot of active climbers? I suppose with the PP's you must huh?

I agree, I'm loving it. I've noticed they seem to like the pearled shells more, and I think it's because they weigh less. That is too funny with Big Enzo though! I can picture that exactly lol, because that was how Mrs. Robinsion was with her original spotted turbo... She'd like sit on top of it while she tried on other shells. I was honestly a bit nervous about aggression when strawberry switched into it so soon after, (not even 24 hours) but if there were any problems I didn't witness it- so far so good. They are too funny when they really find one they like. ^_^ She really needed to switch though, as she couldn't even retract her walking legs up into it! lol So needless to say, I'm glad to see her wearing a pretty option with some room for her to breathe! :3

Thank you so much! Actually yes- In fact I feel like they are more active now that I have more coverage with the vines, and places to climb. I work overnights so I only get to see the crazies in full action about 2 nights a week, but they all climb the vines at night and early mornings. They also love to just hang out in the moss pit. A lot of times I just come back to a wrecked tank and I know that the tank was bumpin' the night before! lol

That is a bubbler pool. They keep the water fresh longer, and are the cheapest way to create humidity without misting/ saturating the substrate. It also pumps fresh air into the tank, which is a plus as our tanks don't get much aeration since we have to have such high humidity for the crabs. It keeps my humidity in the mid 80's, and the crabs seem to enjoy the pools more with the bubbles. I highly recommend them, as I've never had humidity issues since I've installed mine. If you are in a dryer area, like Arizona, bubbler pools might not be enough, but most people find they really are a lifesaver. :)

Everything you need to make one you can purchase at walmart for about 10 bucks- give or take a few. You just need, a simple aquarium pump,(the cheapest one will do, I believe it was about 6.50 for mine) a splitter if you want the bubbles in both pools,(less than a dollar) airline tubing, (about 2 dollars) and aquarium airstones (they usually come in a 2 pack for less than a dollar).
