Eco earth smell

Post by Hermitmomma » Wed May 03, 2017 11:11 am

At the bottom of the tank where the substrate is more moist, it has a cow manure type of smell?? What do I do! I've never actually had this happen

Sounds like you have some flooding going on. This happens if you mist regularly. Do you have any molters down?
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

Well, sounds like you need to mix some dry substrate into your current substrate if you are 100% positive that your hermits are not molting. I do not recommend digging up molters at all.

---One has just finished molting. I discovered carefully.. he was done munching on his exo as well. I do not have more dry sub, if I take them out and use a hair dryer to dry it up a bit will that do?

That will make a huge mess everywhere! just try mixing all of your substrate together. Naturally your top layer should be dryer than your bottom.
