Re: What is Bonnie?
Nice to see another Ohio crabber, can I ask where you got all these little guys? They're adorable!
On the first one I would say scaevola or ruggie because of the antenna. I'm definitely leaning more towards scaevola based on the eyes though.
On the second I am not quite sure.... could you get a forward facing picture of Casper?

Casper was from a local pet store run by a family, the lady looked at me like I had two heads when I said he looked like a Ruggie.PinchersAndShells wrote:Nice to see another Ohio crabber, can I ask where you got all these little guys? They're adorable!

Bonnie was from Jack's Pets before it was bought out by Pet Valu, which no longer sells any pets besides Betta fish.
As for Casper as soon as he comes up I will take a picture, I have not seen him since last fall but I am at college most of the time besides some weekends and our two week breaks. My father has kept an eye out for my "Turbo Crew" as I have several small/med ones in green or gold mouth turbos, but so far he has not seen Casper though he also works a lot. If it helps to identify Bonnie she is extremely active and loves to dig tunnels all over then reappear in a day or so.
Re: What is Bonnie?
She looks like a Ruggie to me. Pretty one for sure. I have 2 ruggies and one them is in that color.

In Salem, by any chance? Someone nabbed the others that came in with mine before I knew they were there. I was so not happy! She'd had them for four months and never mentioned them. They thought they were all Es.Emmerson wrote:Casper was from a local pet store run by a family, the lady looked at me like I had two heads when I said he looked like a Ruggie.
The hardest part about determining species is to completely ignore their color. All of the species have a fair bit of variability to their coloration, so it cannot be used as an IDing tool. Looking at the eye shape and shield leg I would say both are Ruggies. A photo of their claw curled in their shell would be definitive, Ruggie claws have a very unique shape.

Yes wodesorel you are absolutely right about the color cannot be use for IDing. I did look at all of those aspects before determining that she is a Ruggie. I was just pointing out the fact that Bonnie look just like my one of my Ruggies in every way. But more close-up photos would be nice. Anyways I still think she is a Ruggie.

Re: What is Bonnie?
I would say that Bonnie is most likely a Ruggie. The reason I suggest this is because she has a large amount of setae, more so than an Ecuadorian. Also her exoskeleton is very light. I highly doubt she would be C. Scaveola as they are found in the Middle East near the Red Sea. Additionally, I am not sure if they even collect C. Scaveola for the pet trade.

Re: What is Bonnie?
I've only seen someone with a possible Scaveola once, and it was a crabber in Israel.
