My new setup

Post by HermitCrabAddicted » Sun Jul 02, 2017 5:32 pm

For awhile now I have debated to downgrade my hermit crab tank, I recently decided that I would. I went from a 55 gallon tank to a 20 gallon tank. I feel much happier with my hermit crabs, and enjoying them more. I have 4 left, and plan to maybe get a strawberry hermit crab sometime. My new setup :)

May I ask why you downgraded? I've never heard of anyone downgrading!

I have! A former member did awhile back. She went from a 125G to a 65G and from 16 crabs down to 8.

Well not long ago, I had a big lost to my tank. Lost 7 crabs in 2 days. Since then been bummed about it. I am also starting a new job soon. So a combination of that, wanted something easier to manage, and to enjoy the crabs more, than keep and keep upgrading, and keep adding more. Was starting to feel like a collection to me, and like a chore. Wanted to enjoy it more with a few in it than a ton.

Very cute! I agree a 20g is way more manageable than a 55g in my opinion. I did the same thing and found it much easier to keep humid/heated and my hermits did a lot better because of it! But then I upgraded to a 30g and have a separte colony in the 20g so you never know where you'll end up!

It is a lot easier to keep humid and heated lol. My hermit crabs seem very happy. I'm already thinking of setting up another 20 gallon tank in the future
