Happy Birthday and welcome to the HCA! You will find a lot of info here and very friendly people!

Your tank looks amazing...love all the little plants! How many crabs do you have in there? Sorry if you say so in your video, but I can’t currently turn the volume up.

After admiring how beautiful it looks, my attention went straight to the substrate and gauges. Lol, can’t help it. You may know these things and they certainly aren’t meant to be judgy (I kept mine in a critter keeper for a week before I stumbled onto the HCA). You’ll want 6” of substrate or 3x deeper than your largest crab, whichever is more...also very important to make it sandcastle consistency so their tunnels/caves will hold. They need the deep substrate for molting. Then, I always shoot for 80/80 humidity/temp. I have found that they are more active when it’s warmer! You may already be working on these things, but figured they were worth a mention...feel like they are 2 of the most important things to be mindful of.

What a great Bday present! Have fun with it! I’m sure some others will chime in as well.

Thanks! I AM having fun with it!!!... It is only one of my hobbies but has definitely become my FAVORITE!!

There are just 2 little ones in that 40 gal LOL!!!.. (There was NO sound in the short video... wish I could post the picture above)
I watch video from 2 cameras every morning and I just got done reviewing last nights activities and I observed the two of them dancing briefly and the humidity raise from 70 to 78.. (2am) and temp from 73 to 77. It hasn't been easy getting 80 / 80 The tank is in our sunroom where we spend most of our time.. We have a small space heater we rarely use.. It will be easier to keep constant 80 / 80 in about a month.. We are a very short drive from the gulf of Mexico Panama City Beach.. To help with the humidity I spray just the garden in the front the cholla wood and the Natural Grass Fibers hammock every morning and evening. I spray the sub gently after hide and seek poop scooping every other day.
I am constantly logging in to the cameras viewing the gauges..
I keep the substrate at sand castle consistency.. The depth of the sub. is about 8 inches at its deepest and going down hill. So I was thinking that my "hill" area was sufficient because the 8-6 "deep area is about 8"Wx13"L.. But I will add more substrate to make the hill bigger this weekend..
THANKS FOR YOUR ADVISE..

You are very welcome! Didn’t realize it was a 40 gallon...I’m sure your 2 littles ones love all that room! My personal opinion is that you can’t go wrong to add more substrate. I also have a 40g and the entire tank has 7” across...it’s a lot of sand/coco fiber, lol! I also have 7 crabs though...

Yes it's a huge space for them... Its so huge it kinda makes me want to add more.. After learning so much I know now that rescue is the only way to add any OR to pay $150 to the new breeders... Here is a VERY VERY cute video of Brownie and PC pulling fish from a skewer🦀https://youtu.be/48GNCo2VsNE
