Also how tricky is it to add a tank on top? I don't have space for more tanks on the side, but I was thinking of upgrading to extra space for the crabs to climb higher

Omg, I love the middle topper for them to go from one tank to the other, so creative! Ahhh I wish I had the space, time, and money for something like this! 
I have 5 PPs in a 40 gallon breeder!
