Crabbies over the years...lots of pics!
Thought I would post some pics of some of my crabbies that Ive had for a while that i have recent pics of as well.
Sylvestra...ive had her for 6 years now, shes one of the biggest crabs I have. I got her while i was still using commercial foods, during which she lost her vision. Shes been blind for 5 years now...but does amazing and is by far one of the most active crabs--climbing--in the tank, other than maybe Mandarin.
When I first got her 2004:
2008:
Her molting Dec 2009:
Her now!
Mandarin who I got in 2006, shes the one on the left:
2008:
2009 Climbing...its what she does best!:
After her molt last month!
Florette when I first got her in 2006. I adopted her from a local scuba instructor who mistakenly took her home in a shell she collected from a beach in Belize. Florette spent the airplane trip home in the cold cargo, and then another 2 weeks in the ziplock bag the lady had the shell collection in...only to find Florette when she was rinsing them out! Florette was about the size of a green pea, I was so worried shed get lost in the tank, but she did great! :
She changed shells pretty quick..good thing I still had those tiny craft shells around!
2006, with her tank mates, the crab next to her was about golfball size--
2007--
Florette after her molt last week--
Shes quite a bit bigger now
Hope you enjoyed the crabby progression!!

Florette is so beautiful! I've never seen a crab that small before. Which breed of crab is she? I really can't tell some of them apart yet. I think it's so great that you've been able to keep Sylvestra alive so long even though she's blind.

Great pictures! I loved seeing the progressions. I'm not doubting your observations, but how do you know that Sylvestra is blind? I'm very curious of how you figured that out!
Amazing story with that tiny little guy. he's so cute!
