4 year growth progress - C. brevimanus

Post by MudCrabDude » Sat Jul 02, 2011 5:23 pm

Here's a growth progession of my female C. brevimanus, currently named "Carryl". I got her about a week or so prior to joining these forums. Some of the past HCA members still around when I first started posting these pictures might remember some of the different names I had for her, when I still didn't know if she was a "he" and vice-versa. :D

All pics are taken with her fully tucked in her shell for growth reference.

In mid-June, 2007, when I first bought her with a big pincher scar:

Now, she's officially a "large" and about 2X the volume of her male tankmate Fenner. 8)

Sadly, I wish it could have been the same for the other crabs that were acquired around the same time until March of 2010.

The crabs that were outlived:

"Heathcliff" - C. clypeatus
Unknown large C. perlatus
3 small C. clypeatus
"Bully" - C. clypeatus
"St. Ignacius of Loyola" (adoptee C. clypeatus)
"Titus Pullo" (adoptee C. brevimanus)
"Gent #2" (C. brevimanus male)
"Harry/Harriet" (C. clypeatus female - blue color morph adoptee)
"Big Momma" (large female C. clypeatus adoptee)
Unknown small-med C. brevimanus
"Incognito" - small C. clypeatus

R.I.P.

Thanks people! ^^^^

Prior to joining the site, most of my crabs molted but shrank and eventually died (my crab-keeping knowledge was mostly from 1980's pet manuals). One of the reasons I eventually "had" to join HCA was when I was surfing/lurking the web and I saw pics of someone (I forgot who) showing their pet C. compressus growing in a series of pics. I figured that the HCA knew a lot more than these old books that I had for a couple of decades and decided to start crabbing again (as I signed up HCA - by astonishing conicidence, the local PETCO decided to stock "exotic" land hermits as well, from where I got Carryl back in 2007) to see if I can replicate that person's success...;)
