Crabitat Update
I got a request for some updated pictures of my tank and figured I'd just post them here since I haven't posted any since last summer. The biggest change is that I have stopped using suction cups. Yay! I drilled small holes in the plastic top rim of the tank and I hang everything from them using little zip ties. This has allowed me to hang netting on three sides of the tank and I took the suction cups off the backs of the shower caddies and arranged for them to hang from the drilled holes via some plastic rulers. Other things around the crabitat have been rearranged, removed, or replaced due to wear and tear.
The whole shebang
Middle of the tank with Fiddle drinking some saltwater
Left side showing most of the crew hiding out after having been disturbed by my work
Marble in a cork tube
Right side
And now some random shots I've taken since last posting...
Mutsu looking confuzzled by the skewer through his squid and beet
Violet (blue), Mutsu (viola), Mandarin (rug), Cardinal (straw)
My second largest indo, Cashew. He's quite a butthead.
Moss pit party featuring Cardinal (straw), Cashew (indo), Merah (indo), & Mandarin (rug) with Mutsu dangling above
Florence (viola) with Indie (pp) climbing the net behind her
Cashew enjoying the fogger
Rico (pp) is one of the main reasons the skewer system has been put into effect

Looks great! And nothing beats being able to get rid of suction cups, they are a real pain!

Re: Crabitat Update
All the wood currently in the tank is cork bark. I've picked up most of the pieces at Petsmart. I check for any large and interesting cork in the reptile section every time I stop in to do my shopping.hermitcrabdc wrote:Amazing tank where did you get all the wood and stuff?

Really nice! I like the netting all around the tank - great use of surface for climbing!
Is there any concern that they would try to eat the netting since its a fiber? Or if its artificial fiber will they not even try?

Re: Crabitat Update
My crabs eat absolutely everything, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were nibbling on the nets. I've been keeping these nets in my tank for 6 years and they haven't caused any harm.

Very nice tank setup. I'm curious, it looks like you filled in a built-in pool, what caused you to do this? And the skewering?

Re: Crabitat Update
Looking good!
Shawn, I think the reason why she doesn't have the pools because the pools broke when she tryied to take then out for cleaning.... They were removeable ones....
Love the tank, such cute crabby pics! sigh, if i had a tank half as good as yours!

Re: Crabitat Update
Yes, one of my plexiglass pool inserts developed a leak over time. I still had the plexiglass frame siliconed in place that I could've used as stationary pools, but I was just sick of them by that time. I ripped out the framework but have never bothered to scrape the off the silicone residue.
