Flower the escape artist

From the first time I purchased flower four years ago in newyork he has been my most interesting mischievous crab I have ever owned. he scales walls, robs shells, picks fights, and chases his freedom. In the beginning I didn't,t believe an animal as small as a hermitcrab had the capacity of having such a bold personality from one another and caring for a crab like flower deepened my fascination toward them, and the simple functions of their precious everyday life.
He's traveled through states, and lived in four differnt houses with me escaping numbers of times from his habitat. Flowers had a life of climbing curtains getting down sets of stairs, and each time ending up in an impossibly difficult place for me to rescue him from.i love this cleaver crab no matter how many hours of sleep I lost trying to safley and cautiously dislodge him from the heating vent or scoop him out from under the fridge with a spatula.

He sounds like a tough little guy! Time to invest in some locking clips to keep him safely in his crabitat (or at least place something heavy on top of the lid). ;)

I recently had to place something heavy on my tank as well, for my girl escaped, found her in my sock drawer, was so glad I left drawer open some..lol our apt has so many closets, a huge kitchen..thats alot of hiding room for 1 small crab.

They are great climbers and can even climb the silicone in the corners.

Lol, thats funny..so late lastnight early this morning, my daughter woke up crying, while trying to make her comfey again & go back to sleep, I watched my girl hermit escape from the tank, I picked her up so she wouldnt injure herself..Having a crab climb all over your shoulders , back, arms is very difficult & tickling while trying to pat the baby back to slp!! what a way to want, human time...

These stories are amazing! None of my crabs have ever escaped. Some have come close when I leave the lid open to feed them and what not but oh my gosh in a heating vent and sock drawer? That's nuts!

Erick, my tank is on my dresser,& becuz I know they love to escape , I keep my sock drawer open so they dnt fall on floor, potentially injuring themselves, getting stomped on, or lost..The sock drawer has fuzzy warm socks of different textures so its fun & safe to hide in there ,& can hear them better than on the rug!!! lol...

I bought custom glass lids and they are too heavy for them to lift. To be double sure and cover the spots that were notched out for air flow in the glass I use a screen lid on top of that and have locks on it. If they can make it through all of that they deserve to escape. Lol
