90 Gallon Update!

Post by jarteta97 » Wed Dec 03, 2014 9:43 pm

I gots me some pics for you guys/gals. I've been doing a little more work on the 90 gallon, with the help of my b-day money, so I thought that I would let you all see :D

A couple weeks ago I ordered off Craigslist something like 33 small plastic baggies of organic hermit crab food:

I also started work on the pools. I finished the saltwater, and hope to finish the freshwater around Christmas. It's like a 1 gallon cricket keeper

My little girl Violet loves it

And now for the tank itself:

Image

Here's the new and improved moss pit I ordered, and filled with some spare AAA New Zealand Sphagnum moss. Violet's chillin' like a villain

Image

A nice extra-large cork round I also ordered. I got the idea from Sugarselection's 90 gallon :) I may cut it down shorter and turn it on its side to make it more like a tunnel and less like a tree

Image
Image

I finally got those power-lock suction cups, and they work great!

Image

Here's a cocohut I crafted myself. The last one was much too small

Image

A nice dinner of kale, bell pepper, raspberry, blueberry, and black berry

Image

Some dried dandelion I got from the goodies pack

Image

And now some crabby pics!

Spider crab, spider crab, does whatever a spider crab does!

Here's what it looks like at night

And to cap it all off, a pic of one of my precious froggies! :)

Hope you all enjoyed!

Wow, looking better every time I see it! :)
The only questions I ask is that:
a) Can you do the FW pool like now? the SW pool looks awesome
b) Is the shells, sand & plant glued to the bottom?

I glad that the crabs have already taken I liking to the pool, I bet they loving the flow of water (and maybe a deeper depth.)

Yeah, yeah, I gotta wait for those Christmas funds to do the FW :). All the stuff at the bottom is aquarium siliconed into the bottom, left to cure for about half a week. When I applied the silicone, I used a bag of exo terra river bed sand and pressed some in so that it would look beachy :D

Thanks for the praise

What are you using for a ladder in the pool? I can't tell what it is- and it doesn't look like the cross stitch plastic stuff.

It's egg crate, a type of light diffuser found at hardware stores. It's commonly used in false bottoms, and I simply cut it to the size I wanted and zip-tied some needlepoint canvas (that cross stitch stuff) to the egg crate :)

Everything looks great. I did kritter keeper pools for a while but ultimately switched them out because I needed more molting space at the time.

Ooooh, you know you were one of the biggest inspirations for this tank? I love your 90 gallon :hail:

Thanks. I'll actually be getting rid of my 90 in a week or two. It's been a nice tank but I'm sick of having to use a step stool to reach inside.

What are the crabs going in? Yeah, I agree, the tank height can be annoying :|

I'm in the finishing stages of modifying an Exo Terra terrarium (large, extra tall) so the crabs will be moving in there very soon.

36x18x36, right? Man, I'm sooooo jealous. I can't wait to see some pics. :D That's actually my dream tank for poison dart frogs, but that's not until the future *stares dreamily into space*

I noticed your shower caddy moss pit has square holes on the side. Are they also on the bottom? Does the moss ever fall through? BTW tat looks amazing.

The holes are only in the sides. The moss clumps together, so it really doesn't fall out. And thanks :D
