I love it, but is there a beta in the freshwater pool?
Wouldn't the crabs eat it?
How does it survive?
The details on that please thanks. :)

That's amazing, but why is a fish in there?

Very cool setup, but I don't think betta looks too happy.

There is a filter and air stone in the tank. Betas don't swim around a whole lot so he is fine in the tank and the crabs don't bother the fish at all.

What a great climbing net! Bet they love that!
What are the colored things in the sub? They look like little jewels or something...unless its just from the camera lens.

Do they voluntarily go in the pools and walk around under there? Have been wondering if that is something I should offer.

My bettas use to be very active, so was just wondering. Love the two smaller tanks for pools anyway. What size are they?

The color in saltwater is just from the camera. The tanks are 2.5 tanks and they do go in and out of the tanks.

Great crabitat and very happy-looking crabs! Love to see a crab in a murex shell -- so pretty but most crabs don't like them.

Keeping betta fish in anything less than 5 gallons is cruel. In their natural habitat, they swim in large rice paddies in Thailand. You really should get the poor guy out of there.

I say nice tank for the crabs, but you need to remove the betta ASAP. Bettas need to be in larger tanks then thAt even if pet stores tell you they are fine in cups. I can see way more issues with keeping the two together but at least it will be a good snack for the crabs, if it's not swimming around much. My betta is super active, so was his buddy, who recently passed of old age. You will need to think long term health of the fish. Say it gets a torn fin that gets an infection, then you would need to medicate the fish. So you will have to remove it from the tank anyways to treat it. Or the problem many bettas can suffer from is bloating due to poor diet conditions, you may be feeding it the best pellet food possible but it will still have a tendency to get this issue because pellet food just isn't like natural feeding. So mirroring the fish will be hard cause you will have to get around possible crab actions. I mean the betta looks pretty but the crabs will stress it. Unless its just going to be a feeder long term. I love my betta so I would never risk it's health in this way, but some people don't take as much interest in there fish. Idk your animals, your tank, your call.

That betta has been in with the crabs for over a year now.

While the rest of the tank looks lovely, please move that betta out ASAP. I am worried about his condition then the actual size of the pool itself. From the photos, looks like he is suffering fin rot, which is usually brought on my bad water conditions. His clamped fins was a little "warning sign" that things aren't the best for him; a active and healthy betta will be displaying his fins - or at least the ones I've kept/seen. Even though the betta has been in there for a year, he probably will appreciate his own home where you can closely monitor his water conditions and even have a good excuse to get that 20g you wanted some some of those tetras that you've been eyeing off!

i agree, i've had a handful of bettas throughout the years and the only reason they don't swim around a lot is because they don't have the room to, or they're sick. :( a happy, healthy betta with lots of room will swim around the entire tank all day.

plus, it probably really stresses the poor thing out with crabs going in and out of his home all the time.
please get him his own tank, at least 5 gallons.

the rest of your crabitat looks amazing, so why endanger another extremely misunderstood and often abused animal?
please don't take offense to what we're saying, we just care about the well-being of all animals.
