My new 55 Gallon Upgrade! :D

Post by Rawrgeous » Wed Jan 13, 2016 3:50 am

I am so excited and happy to say that I now have Chester and Strawberry moved into the new 55 gallon and it's amazing compared to the ten gallon I upgraded from. Bruce and Jack are still under, and will be put into the main tank after they come back to the surface in the 10 gallon. It's a work in progress, I still need to add my moss pitt, for now I just have some down in the corner, but what do you guys think? Does it look like everything's set up okay? So happy with the Ultratherm already-
I'm getting way more consistent temps. Which is good because it's cold here! My fiance also spoiled me and got me some new inserts that are super pretty! I'm so happy!! :D

Is the ultratherm a type of heater? I have a 55 gal as well and I really struggle with heating the tank. I'm a little phobic of heating lamps as we had a devastating house fire when I was younger and I am always looking for a safer alternative.
Thank You!

The ultratherm is a type of heater, yes. It's an excellent one, too. It's electric, but the website I bought mine from says they operate for very cheap. Check out a website called ReptileBasics, go to "Products" on the top tab, and click "Ultratherm Heat Pads". I got the 11"x35", and it was only $27.99 plus shipping.

Because the pad is covering the whole surface of what you put it against, it's going to increase the heat on that side uniformly and in-turn up the heat in the tank pretty significantly, and keep it somewhat constant too. Good stuff basically.

It's totally fire-safe. It's a plastic sheet with some wires in it, is all.

I actually got the longest one available- because my house gets so cold. (Its old) and it covers the entire back of the tank, I barely had to insulate it. It took a few hours to bring it up to temp but it's a constant 80 now sometimes a little over. :)

It looks AMAZING! Upgrades are so super fun!!! You did a great job on it!

However, are you sure that is a 55? It looks too short and wide to me from the pics.......what's the dimensions?

48 inches long 20 inches tall 12 inches wide. Thank you! I honestly wasn't there for the purchase of the actual tank, so It could be smaller, and I could be confused, I just know what I was told. Lol I'm so happy with it, Now I'm really wanting a few more babies to go in it...I'm just not sure, I'm trying to find people to adopt from on craigslist but no such luck so far.

Sounds like you have a standard Marineland 55g (48x13x20) and you've done really nice job! Love all the color in there. We've often debated whether or not crabs can see color: if they can, they'll love living in a rainbow!
PPs are Big Enzo, Charles Paris and Mr Pinch
On the Big Beach in the Sky: Murray, Gino, Oscar, Gordon, Ignatz, Harry and King Felix the Pale

Thanks! I wanted it to be pretty even to those who don't understand....*cough cough* my mother in law. Lol :) and Strawberry and Chester seem to be loving those new log pieces. :) So impatient for the other two to come up so they can see it too! It's so cute to watch them explore new things. I love how curious they are! Woot. My fiance helped design it, he won't admit it, but he's hooked too. XD
