I can get pink Himalayan salt at my local health foods store (sometimes I can also find it at chain grocery stores but I have to look really hard and don't always find it). It's what I use to cook with. I had no idea I could give that to my crabs! Thanks for the info I also have 3 pink Himalayan salt lamps too. They cast a lovely glow.

Sorry, I just saw this!Tala wrote:Yay! Those are awesome! Giner I love the swirly shell in the corner-- I've set aside so many pretty shells to use as decoration and haven't figured out a way to do it yet. Candie your upgrade looks great! And I love the water dishes as well! I may have to steal the idea-- we use aquarium rocks in our dishes but they're just piled in there loose and when we rinse them it's a challenge to keep them out of the drain/dispose-all, haha.
@maranda I love all the climbables and wood bits and I have a million questions! (or maybe just a few but so many things seemed to jump out at me at once haha).marandashermies wrote:very nice set ups everyone! Love all the greenery- I am sure your crabs are absolutely loving their new set ups!
Here are a few pics of my tanks- I wont include too many!
56g - this was initial set-up. I have since then added more plants
125g - i change things in here a lot too
55g- I want to re-do the left side, but still trying to figure out what i want to do...
Is that cork wood/bark in the back of your 56 gal? Where'd you get it and how did you attach it, if so?
Where did you find the giant cholla wood? We have small pieces and there's not really a way to utilize them, haha.
What is this giant piece of wood with all the hollow bits?! Also what's the thing in the bottom left corner?
What lights are you using in your 56gal? It looks like just the right amount of light to be able to see the crabbies when they're out and also give them plenty of shade and such to make them feel more confident about venturing out. We have a fluorescent aquarium light that sits on top of the tank and it seems pretty much impossible to make any shady areas while having it on.
Haha thank you and sorry for all the questions! It might've been easier to ask you to give a step by step/item by item description of the entire thing instead, haha.
I assume you are referring to the wood in the way back of the tank- the flattery piece? That is just a cork flat- I got that one at Petco I think? It isn't attached to anything, the bottom of it is just buried a few inches into the sub. Cork doesn't mold, so that's why I was able to do that. Cholla wood purchased on eBay. I think you are referring to the big tree with the hollow inside, in the 125g? If so, PetsMart in the fish section. It is VERY large though, so make sure you have enough room for it! Left corner...left corner...umm I think what you are seeing is the little cave, maybe? I think that was also a PetsMart purchase a while back.
Lights in my 56g- I use a super small light LED light strip that came free with tank when I bought it at PetsMart. It has day and night settings, so I just flip it to blue at dusk and completely off when I go to bed. I also have two blue heat lamps that I keep on 24/7 and one day light that I flip on during the day only, as needed, for heat. But yes, they do have a lot of shady areas in the 56g. More so in this tank than my others. But also notice, I have the heat lamps raised. I had them on the lid directly and it shattered. No bueno!
I use a fluorescent hood on my 55g. You can make levels they can go underneath to find shade. The left side of that tank they like hanging out under the platform. The other thing is, on the left side of the 55g I have the fluorescent light hood at the back of the tank and then on the right side, I have that hood in the front. That spreads it out nicely and they can still go behind all the décor in the tank during the day and hide out! Let me know if I missed anything!

Haha! Thank you so much! I bought a cork wall thing last week and I love it! Wasn't sure how to put it in initially but we made it work. Thanks for answering my questions!marandashermies wrote:Sorry, I just saw this!Tala wrote:Yay! Those are awesome!
