Okay just got my first shipment of shells from Naples and Hermie is all over them! For hours each day! Just wish he would stop messing around and change into one of them! I swear he thinks they are just there as an obstacle course...

Awww, he'll change eventually; guaranteed by the time he starts growing! 
Have you tried boiling the shells (make sure they are empty, I know it is obvious, but I feel the need to say it anyway)? Sometimes they are more appealing freshly boiled.

Spongebob went down to molt with a painted shell on. Hopefully he ditches it when he comes back up.
