Panama Hermit Crabs (soon to be pic heavy!)
I just spent my Sping Break in Panama, and let me tell you, it was amazing! I wanted to share with you guys about my hermit crab experience in Panama. I believe it was Wednesday, I went out to a small island with a group of people to have fun at the beach, snorkel, and to just relax. I was so excited when I saw a hermit crab on that beach, closer to the trees and foliage. But then I saw another, and another one, and I noticed their were tons! There must have been about 3,000 hermit crabs that I saw, and I'm sure their were thousands of more on the island, maybe even hundreds of thousands! So I stole my dad's nice camera, with his zoom lens, and started taking pictures! I couldn't stop, they were so cute! I must have taken at least 75+ pics, but don't worry, I will try to not post too many on here, I will just choose my favorite ones. Unfortunately my dad does not live close to me, so I need to wait until he sends me those pictures. We are all going to have to be patient together. I just couldn't wait to share with everyone, so I am posting this before I can post the pics. But I will have them soon! And don't worry, I did not take any crabs home with me, that would be so cruel! I just took my pictures.

Okay, I was going to upload the pictures yesterday, but I got busy. I am going to try my hardest to remeber to upload them today. But here is one of my favorite pics that I got. It is of crabs attacking a slice of bread. Since I'm on my phone, I can't upload them all, but when I get on my laptop at home, I will upload the rest.

Ahhhh! That's so awesome! I love the pile of E's attacking it. I just showed it to my coworker, and his comments were:
"That's kind of terrifying - hermit crabs taking over the world."
After I mentioned they were Ecuadorians:
"Immigrant crabs. Headed over to Panama to make money and send it back to their families. ...or I guess bread. That's working out for them pretty well."
Haha! Anyway, thank you for sharing!!

I wish I was there!!! So jealous!
Also, if you did take one home, it would actactually be less cruel than adopting from a pet store. Those crabs are picked up from the wild and then shipped in sometimes terrible conditions. Just thought I'd point that out.

No, I didn't end up taking one home. If I did, I would risk having them die from flying, and being thrown into captivity. So I decided to let them enjoy their happy lives in the warm tropical peaceful little island they were on. But I see your point, and I hate how they are treated when shipped to pet stores.chobbychobby wrote:I wish I was there!!! So jealous!

I love that every single one has a teeny weeny shell that barely covers their butts. See? Nothing to worry about, E owners!
