After our drive to California i set this tank up and the crabs seem to love it. Thing ones final half of his leg is back after his most recent molt and he looks a lot bigger. He seems a bit shier now. But i realized that a lot of the hideys and toys that i have for him are to small. Anyone have any ideas for designing a tat for large/jumbo sized crabs? Anyway hope you enjoy the pics.

Beautiful guy! Maybe just build up the sand if some things are just too short?

Thing 1 looks terrific! Who would have thought he could come back from such an awful experience but crabs almost always surprise us by being such hardy creatures.

Re hides for larger crabs: have you thought about plastic or ceramic hides for rodents? Check out the mouse/hamster/gerbil/ferret hides at Petco/PetsMart & I'll bet you'll find some cool things that will work well. There's always the old reliable margarine and yogurt tubs or you could pick up a fresh young coconut (pale and kinda shaped like a tiki hut) and make a hide with a customized entrance to fit your big guy.

Both good ideas, i may be running to the pet store today so i will check. Lol one of those coco hides is from the store the other i made and both thing 1 seems to SOMEWHOW fit under. I think he just lifts them up with his eyeball and crawls under. But i know! he was missing half of his body and now hes huge and beautiful. So crazy.

If you don't like the look of the plastic rodent type hides you could silicone loose dry EE over it so it looks more natural in the tank. :)

Inside too maybe? Someone chime in if it is a bad idea but inside would make it feel more like home for him.

No those work, i have made those before. I might make another one. Its just interesting seeing him walk right over hides and climbs like they aren't even there when a few years ago he could lose himself in them ya know?

How many do you have in your tank? How big is it?
