Ok so I really don't think that visually I am that interesting while I am crocheting but apparently Herc seems to think that I am . His face was pressed against the glass watching my every move lol. You know they are apparently not only entertainment for us to watch but we are for them as well ! Had to grab the camera and capture this moment and some wonderful pictures came of it. He watched me for 2 hours before going to eat lol.

Maybe he wondered if you were crocheting him a hammock. Or a set of teeny weeny crab socks.

Lol I wouldn't put it past him. The blankets I sew probably look like a fun climbing toy :p. I wonder if it would be safe to use a regular yarn or is it only safe to use the hemp material o.0? Anyone know?

I've been using the hemp, but I'm looking into the lion brand (I think it's called) nature's choice. I've read somewhere that it's the most organic yarn you can get from a company. it's supposedly dyed naturally and has no harmful chemicals in it but I'm not so sure how crab safe it is so I would try finding out more about it. it is cotton though, so I don't know if that's safe, maybe someone else knows? (it also comes in a few different colors )
if you've ever tried to crochet with hemp then you know how tough and hard it is on the hands, but it's definitely not impossible to make anything you want, it just takes a lot more time and work than normal soft, elastic yarn.

Hrm I will have to find out on that one. Anyone else know if that is safe? No I have never tried to crochet the hemp lol omg I prob won't be able to. My hands are not that great ><. Tho I have been crocheting more n more it is not easy on my hands n wrists lol. And of course my bad wrist is my right one and I am mainly a righty lol. I can use both but my left hand had a bad injury as well and my thumb often gives out leaving that hand useless -,-.

I've kinda been wondering about regular yarn too, since it is easier to work with. I'd guess, and it is just a guess, that synthetic yarn (acrylic, which is what a lot of regular yarn is made of) wouldn't mold because it is synthetic? I do wonder, however, because it is usually also fuzzy, if the crabs would pinch bits off and eat them. That might not be such a good thing.

Yea that and worrying that they would get stuck....it is the only reason that I haven't tried it yet. Figured I should ask first. It is hard for me to find the Hemp yarn in our walmart and I really don't get to the craft store often atm ><. Will have to try as soon as I can. I hope I can manage with it lol. Some sore hands and probably some complaining.... but I will figure out how to make them some netting and toys lol :P.

Sometimes I wonder what my pets are really thinking about the things I am doing. My crabs are still too skittish to show much of an interest in me (unless it's how to get away from me). But one boa is always checking me and looking at me with what I take as curiosity, and my cat and dogs follow me everywhere, I think it's mostly because I do weird, exciting, interesting things they want to be entertained by.

That is so cute!

About the use of cotton yarn...

Cotton rots, fast, when damp. The high humidity of our tanks perfect for speed rotting.

I learned from experience.

Sorry I have not had a chance to get on to reply with all the holiday and plain craziness atm lol.
Thank you so much for your reply. I had wondered that. I am often looking around to find out what else I can give them to play with lol.
