I just adopted my first hermit crab (not from a pet store)!! I drove a little longer than I'm willing to admit for this crab, but it was so worth it. he's absolutely adorable! Image so I just wanted to share a few pictures. (and if anyone can tell what species he is please let me know)

he's also the smallest crab I've ever had, so all the tiny shells too small for my other crabs I've been storing are now for him (the picture doesn't show them all) and if these still aren't small enough.. I'll just have to buy more Image

Looks like an Ecuadorian to me. And an extremely cute one at that. I would have driven a long way too!

wow. and E? I'm excited but worried at the same time. I only have a 29 gallon tank, and he would be the only E I have. I don't think I can fit one E in that small of a tank with two other crabs, and I know I can't have two. Will he be okay without a species buddy?

Absolutely adorable little E! Congrats on the adoption! Es are fun, you are going to get a kick out of him. If I were you I'd look for a species buddy, but no great harm would come to him in the meantime.

thank you, I think he's the prettiest crab I've ever owned and more active than any other too.

Es and Indos are the most active (from what I gather from the care guides). They are hilarious to watch.

That's an e and yes they are pretty active and sometimes crazy. I feel they are not as hardy and pps can be so make sure your temp and humidity is good. Like 75/80 for both. Until I figured out the es really need the higher temps I lost a couple of them. I had my tank around 72-78 depending on the day when I first started crabbing. Now it's around 80-85 and I have had no e die except for a bad molt. I have had some molt issues before with them as well. Do not be discouraged by anything I say because I had no good information so I hope this helps and not trying to make es sound hard they aren't as long as your tank is set up well. Moist substrate high temps and good humidity. They move around a lot, and are fast and love to climb. They have interesting personalities. I enjoy my little guys a lot

thank you, my humidity is always a little under 80, but my heat is a little tricky to keep over 80. one section is usually 74 and the other is mostly 81.. but since you've told me that I'm going to try to up my insulation and keep it all over at least 77 this Sunday.
