Hi Folks. I got this male several months ago and he has been in hiding. I have named his Donkey Sock. Do you think he is an E or a blueberry?
Thanks!

@ErikRasmussen I got Donkey Socks at a local pet store that takes AMAZING care of their crabs. They really understand hermit crabs needs. They have a proper tank for them and they always ask me what I think of their operation. I seriously have had Donkey Socks for 6 months and this is the first time I have seen him. I was starting to worry that he was RIP.
@PTCrabs he is a he! This is how you can tell.

thats way cool, i love stores like that. and yeah sounds like he was going through his post purchase syndrome molt. Id be willing to bet its an E but someone else may think differently, those eyes and shield leg and choice of shell and color scream E to me.

The shell looks like an E to me however, I thought E's didn't have setae and your little guy definately does so maybe it is an exotic type???

I didn't think this was an E. Didn't look right to me but I wasn't 100% sure so I messaged Wodesorel. She says Ruggie.

As far as I know, all species of land hermit crabs have setae. Es definitely do.

I just read they like humidity at 80% (I have that) and they do best with other e ruggies. Any insight? I was told he was a blueberry by the pet shop and the idea of an exotic kind of freaks me out. I try hard to keep everything as ideal as I can. I was under the impression they are more fragile than pp's.

Setae are the hairs you see on the crab's legs and claws.
