HCA: Hermit Crab Association

I have had these guys since 2015. I decided since they are above ground and all been extremely active that it was a good time for me to take them out, check out how they are looking, sex them and figure out who is who. I don't ever take them out but for knowledge and well being purposes I like to check on them like this and record what I see. I used to be able to tell them apart due to different shells they came in and different crabs had certain missing legs, etc. Well now that they have all molted I'm assuming several times they all look the same except for the small one due to its size and shell. They all have legs intact, no broken ones, sharp black nails on the tips of their legs and nice coloring and similar shells. All looks good! I took a few photos to share with you all. I also named them. Don't know if the names will stick but I'm going to give it a shot. Btw I have six crabs these are only four of them. I have two hermies in ISO that I rescued 6 days ago. They are not included in this post as I'm leaving them alone for awhile.

First crab to be examined. A female in a Babylon Areola shell. I named her Sitka.
Run away!!!!


This is a male in a Babylon Spirata shell. I named him Shamen.


I got the names Sitka and Shamen from the Cloud the Stallion Documentary. (I am a horse enthusiast)

This is another male in a Babylon Spirata shell. I named him Sneakers.


Last hermie is a female in a green turbo unpolished. I named her Slippers.


Thought Slippers and Sneakers would be cute names for some reason and kinda wanted to stick to the S names. I wanted to originally start naming them after race horses but these two looked too innocent for such large and powerful names as secretariat or Seabusciut. Thinking if my new guys pull through that's what I will be naming them

Oh and had to include that the cat was very interested and wanted to help

Ok I am into horses too and my kids and pets are S names and just love your calico. Ours is names sheriff Callie . We are hoping to get our crabs today

Omg she is GORGEOUS! I am in love with calicos. Calico fish, calico cats and I love beagles. Lol surprised my horse isn't calico!

My two males in the main tank were having a ball with the new shells I bought for them. If you would like to see the shells check out my topic "ordered new shells."

Sneakers has officially moved into the Pacific Turbo and looks amazing in it.

Shamen was messing with the Silver Turbo for over an HOUR. Went to take a video but after an hour later I had to leave. I came back 2 hours later and he was in it but checking out his Babylon again. Came back later and he was back in his Babylon and hasn't checked out anymore shells since. Funny how attached they become to certain homes.

I will upload a picture of Sneakers the next time I see him come out of the hermie hut in his new Pacific Turbo.

This little girly has been added to the big tank. She is so adorable I am so happy I rescued her and her brother. I will be naming her Slew after Seattle Slew. If her brother makes it to the big tank his name will be Seabiscuit. She has some broken legs but nothing a nice molt can't fix and omg her color! A lot of orange!

Slew is doing good! Heard of lot of commotion in the tank and when I flicked on the lights I was pleased to see she made friends!

Sitka went into Sneakers old shell making me question who was who lol. Now I know:
Shamen in Babylon with black gem
Sneakers moved out of Pacific Turbo and now is in a Pearl Banded Green Turbo
Sitka is in Sneakers old shell; Babylon with blue gem
Slew I believe moved into the Pacific Turbo, will be confirmed when she gets close enough to the glass to see the broken leg.
And Slippers is I assume still in unpolished green Turbo buried some where.
