I have pet sand. Crazy crabs decided to go back under all at once, after making tons of tunnels, like three days before I had their larger tat ready to go. They're having a lovely time, and I'm missing them. So I decided to show everyone what a mess they made of their tank before they disappeared.
I added raspberry canes and blueberry branches 2-3 days back - at least it smells really nice in there.
And yes, I have a lovely reptile mesh lid covered with press-n-seal, it's just really dark with the lid on, and hard to get good pictures.

Yeah, I've got a bunch down... holes are the only sign of them I have... unless it's just a very small mole that got in there....
"Gaze upon the rolling deep..." Quince the fat tailed gecko; Amazonian minnows; and now Harry & Luis, Bede & Aster, Chandra & Jace, Pax, & Piccolo, my adopted PPs. RIP Vegita :(
LOL!!! Guess it's a hit!! I love it when crabs trash tanks!
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com
Thanks you guys, I"m glad to hear I'm not alone with my pet sand!
Two days ago, Helena was scratching at the glass at the front of the tat, like maybe an inch down, under the big pile of sand by the water bowl. I saw it was her before she covered up the "window". I was watching the sand on top of the pile move up and down, up and down... that was pretty funny! I kept expecting her to pop out of the top of the pile, but she never did. Crabs are weird!

I've had PP's for a while and I only needed to tidy up around the tank every couple of weeks.
And then I added some E's and all heck broke loose... Holes everywhere, anything that can be picked up (shells, decorations, moss balls) ends up in the water dishes, food migrates from the dish in all cardinal directions... They're lucky they're cute
I feel ya! Here ive now spent all these weeks, perfecting our tank, and my crabs have done the same. Tunnels everywhere. Messy little critters. The Mommy side of me wants to tell them, "Go clean up your room!" Lol. But i chalk it up to, at least now i know they are comfortable with their new home. And they're having fun exploring 'the underworld' part of the tank.
Thats really cool that you got to see one under the substrate, through the glass! I keep hoping mine will do that! Ive seen a rollie pollie like that once recently. It would be so cool if one of my crabs would tunnel up to the glass, especially if my kids were watching.
The "no littering" rule hasn't gone over well with my hermies either, LOL.
