HCA: Hermit Crab Association

Okay so now I have 7 hermit crabs. I went from 4 to 7 in a week. But honestly I was just getting some new decorations and passed by the hermit crab tank and saw these guys. They are huge. Like not jumbos but huge regardless. The bigger one's BP is 1"x1".My hand isn't a good comparison because I have really big hands. I just felt so bad that they were in tiny shells and had to get them. I probably have a problem.

One down one to go... also does anyone know where to buy shells with a 1.5"+ opening?

Look for shells with a total size of 3". I searched 3" turbo and found some good canidates.

Also you basically described why I never walk into a Petsmart or Petco. Never.

Beautiful color on them! What nice big babies!

The lack of bristles on their legs makes me sad.

I avoid Petsmart and Petco too. For the same reasons you guys both said. I see the lack of bristles, and the shells that are too small, and I just want to help them molt!

So so bummed right now. I went to check on my tank and saw a BP and small pincher laying by the food bowl. I went into full panic mode because Atlas just came up from a molt and I'm really attached to him. And I thought maybe he got in a fight with the biggest crab but it was the smaller new crabs. I knew she wasn't good off but still it's sad that I only had her for 24hrs. It's really sad because she's so big and has probably lived a long life before being captured. Her antennas are still moving but I don't have much faith that she will live much longer.
I've never had this happen and I'm just really sad right now...

I've isolated her but she just lost her out side "cover" leg and has gone limp. No movement what so ever. This turned into a sad post but a positive from this is that the other hermit crab is doing pretty great.

It's not your fault. They go through so much to get to us, sometimes there's just not much you can do.

At least she's in good conditions now, and if she dies, you'll know you made her last days happy ones. My heart goes out to you.

He finally came up!! And I still don't really have a name for him:( anyways I wish I had a picture of him out but he was being shy.

Im glad you got your buddy back! I read about that new crab. im sorry you had to go through that.
