Post your stories and pics of crabs in wheels here!

I thought this would be a fun topic. I have read many posts from people claiming their crabs love walking in wheels. I had my doubts even after reading all of the posts. How will they know how to use it? They will just climb in and out of it. They will just sit in it. These are all doubts I had but bought one anyway to see what happens.

Well it took the first crab, Vic, a day to find it. He is in and out several times a night. A few days later Eddie found it and he spends hours in it at a time.

I must say the wheel is a huge hit with our two E's! We plan on getting another wheel for our PP's in the near future.Image

Here’s what I have to show :)

I turned on the lights today, my largest was trying to walk, and the other crab below had his leg in the wheel preventing it from spinning.

@Stellacrab ~ what did you use to attach the craft mesh?

It is best to drill holes and attach with zip ties.

I used hot glue, I know it isn't great.
I will get my dad to drill the holes in it :)

I think it would be fine in this application, true the hot glue wont make a fantastic bond due to heat/humdity, but the 'roundness' of the wheel should be able to hold the canvas in check anyway....

It kept bouncing off, but I have removed the glue and will drill the holes to attach mesh :)

I ALWAYS hear someone bumping against the wheel every night! When I first added my smallest crab to the main tank, he spent a full 24 hours (or more) on the thing, eventually falling asleep on it. Now all 3 of them seem determined to climb to the top of the inside without it turning.

The last 2 pics come from Snapchat. All are taken from several feet away because my crabs are weenies :DImageImageImageImage

While our E's are down molting we decided to let our PP's have some fun on the wheel. It's like a traveling carnival ride now! :)

The little guy will go the oppisite way the big guy is going. Once he gets to the top he picks up speed going down! Then the other guy had to try it! Lol! They are too funny!ImageImageImage

We only bought one wheel about a month ago to see if they would use it. We figured to swap the wheel if some would use it and others wouldn't. We plan on getting two more this weekend for them.

How can you attach the mesh besides using zipties?

If you buy the Kaytee silent spinner wheel I recommended, it is so round and curved inside, the circle of mesh just pops in and stays by itself that's how I did mine). I attached the 2 ends of the mesh with cotton yarn, and that puts it in the circle shape. Image
