Just showing off my crabs

Post by Dad-One » Mon Dec 14, 2020 2:44 am

While we loved having the crabitat in the passthrough window between the living room and kitchen, I decided it was time to move the crabitat to a more temperature stable location.

Sitting where it was we were getting super high temps (90+ in the tank) while cooking (the range is directly adjacent to the pass through on the kitchen side) and I noticed a fair draft goes through there too.

I don’t know how stressing that was to the crabs, but I didn’t like it. Knowing how our bird reacted to that draft when he was over there, it was probably a good idea to move them.

I moved the tank to our entertainment center, under the TV or what would be a TV on the wall if it didn’t die and FedEx didn’t break the new one in shipping Image.

The tank is away from drafts and where they can be viewed while sitting in the living room, instead of turning around to see them.

Given the size of our house, the boys moved 90° and 8 feet. Image

Have I mentioned our house is small?Image

Thank you!

The boys seem happier in that new location as well. They were more active last night than they been.

That last shot is cool...I like the “mood” of the photo. They’re so cute, happy to hear they like their new location!

Really odd question... is that a bunny in the cage, under the tank?

It’s a dog kennel. The spare leaves of our dining room table were set on top to create more space.

The eventual plan is that there will be a cabinet built around the kennel, creating an entertainment center along and up the wall. This was the proof of concept on if we’d like that idea or not.

So far it’s worked out nicely. If I didn’t have three weeks of quarantine and lost wages, I’d have the cabinet built by now.

Thank you.

The best photos of the crabitat seem to be at night, when the house is settled down and quiet. That’s when the boys come out of hiding.

If I give them a spritz during the day to bring their humidity back up, they’re active for a few minutes, then back to bed they go.

Darn their nocturnal nature! I can’t blame them though, I like the dark better too, lol.

Aw your little tank is so cute. I really like how you used the old fish bowl as the pool and your crabs are soooo tiny <3. I wish mine stayed hat small forever.

Thank you.

I walked by the crabitat a few minutes ago and both boys trapped the glass with their shells, as off to say hello.
