Recycling beach shells
My daughter likes to walk the beach and pick up every small bit of shell she can find, broken or not. We had a bag of them kicking around so when I did my clean 2 days ago I decided to recycle those without sharp edges into the tank to keep the substrate aerated and help prevent full packing. I used mostly large pieces like sections of clam shells and the smooth whorls from snail shells.

I never thought to use beach shells like that but the unbroken clam shells do make good vacation food dishes. So if the food molds or they become difficult to clean, I can just toss them.

The crabs will like nibbling on those too, CA. My kids decorate our outside mulch with our sea treasures every year but the tank is a good way to use those not-so-perfect pieces.
