A Murder of Crows at Midnight...

It was so strange, there were hundreds of them making a very loud raucous flying from one tree to the other and then back again. I stood and watched them repeat this behavior for several minutes. What in the world are they doing and of all times - at night in the cold, cold winter.

That sounds so poetic! At first reading it made me think of Poe. I wonder what they were up to? I haven't heard too much from the crows or any other birds lately around here.

Maybe there was an owl or something?I just love the term "murder of crows", it's my favourite along with "pride of lions" - the German words are boring in comparison

A Murder of Crows at Midnight...

I was trying to see if there was something that had gotten them so stirred up, but there wasn't much to see. I live in a small town on one of the main streets, so it isn't like I'm surrounded by fields or woods-but I still see lots of unsual things in my backyard. I've seen a fawn, a red fox, a snapping turtle, ducks and even the ducklings once they hatched, squirrels, and raccoons. We even had a homing pidgeon hang out in our backyard waterfall/pond for a few days. I've seen plenty of crows, but never that many in one place ever...it reminded me of Hitch****'s film "The Birds" LOL.
