Since the early days of ancient maritime history mariners have brought back tales of monster waves in excess of seventy feet tall and in some instances even recounting ship eaters one hundred plus feet in hight and for the last thirty or more years these sea tales were though of as nothing more than just pure exaggeration until New Years day 1995 out in the middle of the North Sea the Draupner Oil rig measured a wave in excess of 80 feet using a laser measuring system pointed straight down at the water this is believed to be the first time that a freak wave was measured and thus scientifically proven. The theory up till that point used a rather inaccurate equation to gauge the maximum wave hight of any given sea state this equation is called the linear wave equation which says that if the sea state is at thirty feet then the maximum wave hight for the largest possible waves should only be at most double the normal hight so waves in excess of sixty feet have a lower and lower probability of forming and waves of 80 or more feet in hight should only for once every three thousand years so they should in effect be a once in a life time event. This is the equation that the ship building sector has used to gauge the hull strength of any cargo ship being being built so up till now these ships have only been built to withstand max waves of forty feet this was a fatal error it is said that three ships per month are lost at sea due to this flawed equation.Recently some Quantum Physicists have been looking into why these large freak waves form, how often they occur and how best to determine when and where they will happen ahead of time.As part of this research a few satellites were launched that could use radar to measure the waves in a given area and in three weeks they detected ten waves in excess of 80 feet so we now have conclusive proof that these ship eaters are real and happen way more often than the Linear wave model would have ever suggested. The Quantum Physicists working on the project used several different non-traditional equations to try to give a mathematical answer to the question and the equation that fit best was a modified version of Schroedinger's Equation which when compared to the laser scan profile taken by the Draupner Rig matched up one hundred percent which meant we now have an understanding that there are two different kinds of waves that can form in shallow or deep water the typical linear wave and the non-typical non-linear wave. The non-linear wave forms when the ocean surface becomes destabilized due to excessive agitation whether by an opposing current or cross wind this causes the waves to slow down and group together and waves are cannibalistic they will feed on their nearest neighbors stealing energy from them which causes the feeder to become engorged causing the wave to rear way higher up than the surrounding waves. These freak waves have an extremely steep trough in front of them and just behind them these troughs can be as deep as the wave is tall, they also have an unfortunate characteristic they break instead of rolling along like the rest of the waves around them which have shallow gentle sloping faces so when the ship takes a nose dive into the leading trough it completely disappears under the water regardless of the size of the ship these troughs can be large enough to completely hide the ship and then wave rolls over breaking over the top of the ship this often leads to the ship just being instantly filled and sunk to the bottom because no ship container or otherwise has ever been built to withstand such wave and trough extremes have a typical bow hight of only sixty feet above the water. These non-linear waves can form in any conditions they don't need a storm to drive them up they just happen warm water or cold doesn't matter. The shipping industry is now using the new non-linear math to re-design the worlds container ships to make them bigger and tougher so that they can handled coming into contact with these monster waves.Up until ten years ago the scientific world laughed at old mariners tales of ship eaters saying that such waves couldn't possibly exist because the math just doesn't add up so for years the Maritime Council has relegated most lost ships to human error or mechanical failure but now they are having to admit that maybe more than 50% of all ships lost at sea were sunk by monster freak waves....A normal deep sea wave is typically thirty or forty feet in hight and only exerts an impact force of fifteen to twenty tons of pressure per square meter but a monster wave seventy plus feet in hight exerts an impact force of four-hundred plus tons of pressure no ship in the world has ever been built to withstand that kind of impact stress so when these waves hit they can completely sheer the entire bow off of a ship or even punch a hole big enough to fit three triple decker buses stacked on top of each other in it, this kind of damage is catastrophic.

A lot of the scientific world also laughs at the idea of God, but I'm quite confident in His existence. Not even scientists know everything and they should be less hasty to disregard things that they know nothing of.
