Energy drinks outlawed

Post by Keg » Fri May 09, 2014 12:00 am

I was wondering when someone would outlaw energy drinks. I had a few of them about a month ago. It was magic. Then I could hardly move for three days. All I could think about was buying more. I couldn't stop myself from buying more, although I did manage to pour all 5 of them down the drain when I got home. The convenience store clerk said, "I'd rather do meth than energy drinks because at least meth is honest about being a drug."http://chicago.cbslocal.com/20...-propo ... ce/CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago Ald. Ed Burke has proposed a citywide ban of so-called energy drinks, citing potential health risks with the highly caffeinated beverages. The powerful City Council veteran’s plan, filed Thursday with the city clerk, would create fines starting at $100 for anyone who sells or distributes energy drinks such as Red Bull, Rockstar, Full Throttle, Monster and 5-Hour Energy.“Researchers found that these energy drinks contain high levels of caffeine and warned of dangerous, even life threatening, effects on blood pressure, heart rate and brain function,” language in the proposed ordinance says.In an interview with CBS 2′s Brad Edwards, Burke said Chicago would become the first city in the nation to ban energy drinks. He dismissed any criticisms that the ordinance would be overreaching. The energy-drink ban would apply to adults as well as minors. The ordinance defines energy drink as a bottled or canned beverage that contains more than 180 mg of caffeine and containing Taurine or Guarana. The council’s Committee on Health and Environmental Protection will consider the measure.Burke, who represents the 14th Ward, said he’d at least like to have a public conversation about the health effects of energy drinks and the way they are marketed toward young people. There were 20,000 emergency room admissions linked to consumption of energy drinks in 2011, Burke said, citing a federal study.

Agree with this 100%. I have a friend that would drink several energy dinks a day and ended up in the hospital. And they told him it was probably because of the energy drinks. It's not so bad if you have 1 or 2 a week, but more than that like 2 or 3 a day which is what most people that I have seen drink is harmful.I haven't tried red bull, but I've tried the 5hr energy and a couple others and they don't seem to do anything at all for me. So I don't even bother with them. I guess that's why I never could understand why any one would drink them all day long especially with the high price tag.

He might ban them from being sold in stores in his town, but you can not ban something from a person and them doing it to their person/ body. It's like booze, a town might be a dry town, but you can go to the next town buy it bring it home and drink it in your home. . didn't they that try to do that with the whole soft drink thing to? Stop super sizing? We are going to tell you how much you can drink? I thought that was stupid, most if not all places have free 're fills so just get up and go back get more! Same with smoking, they can limit where you smoke out in public, but in your own home , in your own yard, they can't tell you what you can or can't do with your body..I'm NOT defending these caffine drinks, I had a little taste of one once and thought it was nasty! If you have to drink tons of these to stay AWAKE then you have some serious scheduling issues with your life and maybe need to 're evaluate it. A person SHOULD be smart enough to know they are not to be used for long term use. I'm sure there is a warning on there somewhere??

I opened several different brands and sniffed them... if they smelled fruity I poured them out. I believe that included Rock Star, Red Bull and some generics. The only one that tasted good was monster. It has a chemical twang to it that is somehow addictive in a bad way. It has several variations on that taste: Diet, Dry and Extra-chemically. It also has some coffee flavored versions and an extra strong "ICE" plus nitrous version. That is the one ring that rules them all.I will never forget the hangover when I didn't feel like standing up and I thought "That took something out of me."I decided if I ever had another energy drink, I'd join a twelve step program for addiction. Yesterday I was seriously thinking about trying another one, so this is not good. It's been over a month since I had it and I have moments when I think about it too much.

Just think of what it is doing to your insides??? Your body wasn't made to take in all that crud..I started to have bad gut pains / ulcers going to the Dr getting tubes jammed down my throat and up my .....because I was having issues and it was because of pop! I took nexium for months until the ulcers healed then cut back on pop, then started back up drink a lot of pop coke and my. Dew and that did it , started having the gut pains and thought oh no...Not going to the Dr again and doing the go lightly again ( NOT FUN) the tubes ran every where to find out what's wrong and massive Dr bills!! So I quit pop cold turkey. The gut pains went away in about a 2 weeks. So be careful drinking a lot of fizzy caffine super charge drinks, they might eat a hole in your guts!!!

When something is addictive, consequences become irrelevant. No thinking will make it shut up.***Never mind. It got me. Monster ICE with nitrous technology. One ring to rule them all.
