lap top is crashing?
a few days ago I turned on my lap top and is says log in failed, no matter what I did wouldn't let me log in! after much cursing and question the computer guy he said go to safe mode and do various things and then we restored to an earlier point. well it worked I could log in again, last night seem all as well to. this morning I went to get on and my comp went to turn on and I got lines and the windows logo was all pixels? I turned it off then turned it on again and I got a restore windows failed to start..the comp guy said it could be anywhere from 100+ to fix depending on whats wrong with it.. virus 100 if it's hard ware up to 200. I just spent 50 on a new power cord of course it's not a universal! it's almost 5 yrs old if not already, so plunking that much money in prob is stupid..I don't know what to do??

I had the same problem, I had bought a used laptop for $240, had it for 6 months then the screen wouldn't turn on. Had it looked at and said the screen went out and it would cost 100 to 150 to fix. I just said forget it, not spending that much on an old laptop. I'll just save my money and buy a new one. This laptop wasn't that old either, just approx year old when I bought it.

I don't know about pricing at your location, but in Oklahoma Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples, and such have been doing back to school specials and I have seen several lap tops priced starting at $299 depending on brand and such.

@Laurie, it would be cheaper to just go get a new computer as a failing computer is a money pit when one component goes others quickly follow behind which can add to more money in fixes than a new computer.Your screen issue sounds like your computer has a bad processor or a damaged memory core which can lead to BSOD or Blue Screen of Death which sounds like what your computer is working up to.BSOD can happen due to damage done to the operating system by viruses, electrical spikes which will burn out various components or the whole computer and an aging processor thats in need of replacing.Once you go from getting a picture at all to BSOD the computer might as well be considered a brick at that point because there really isn't an all purpose quick cheap fix for it because individual components have to be replaced one at a time to determine which was the cause.

Dont get a Kindle Fire. Get an iPad or iPad mini. Kindles have SOOO many bugs, are slow, and show alot of ads. iPads are pretty nice. Brother has one and Im stuck with a Kidnle Fire.

I want something I can read books from Like e books and magazines. when winter hits here you get stranded, ya I work at a library got all the books here, but as far as mags? we don't have many. it would be nice to auto check a mag out from a dif library to read. we do have limited books here to, finding out more and more that some of books have been missing / assumed lost. people just not bringing them back. grrrrr! so this way i can get it on e books and not have to wait a week or 2
