in search of bird

Post by Laurie LeAnn » Thu Mar 26, 2015 6:36 pm

I called the pet shop to see how my bird was coming along, when can bring him home..She said he got to close to the heat lamp and cooked himself.. now I'm stuck with $ empty bird cage! She said she is trying to find me one from another breeder and a male. She better I am so mad! She shouldn't of put a heat lamp so close. Kyle said I could have his but his has issues, I love it to death but he won't step up, you can't pet him, his wings grew out so now it's good luck trying to catch him to get him in the cage. He will love on you and rub his head on your chin, loves to sit on your chest and whistle..I just kind of want my own

@Laurie, "the bird got too close to the heat lamp and cooked itself",that's something a knowledgeable pet store should never ever say to a customer, I mean yeah sure you expect that kind of bungling incompetence from places like Pet-Smart and Pet-co where you know they don't take the time to train their employees but a local pet store employee should know better. At my local mom and pop pet store the lady who owns it actually runs it and does a magnificent job of it every pet in the building gets taken care the way that it should and they do have hatch-lings on a regular basis that they keep in an incubator to get the baby birds to full size before selling them and I have never heard of them allowing the babies to be cooked alive, that is such a mind numbingly stupid thing to let happen that anybody who does needs to be fired pronto, no questions asked and they need to be brought up on charges of animal abuse and neglect.I couldn't imagine finding out that any of the ladies that work at my local pet store had actually allowed something like that to happen on their watch, its just insane, the incubator tank they use is not very high tech but it is equipped with a thermometer so that they can keep accurate track of the temps in the tank and they only use a low watt heat bulb that is specifically designed for incubator tanks.I bet the woman at your pet store actually used the wrong set up altogether and the baby didn't cook itself she just let the tank get way too hot and the baby died of heat exhaustion but she's telling you something else either way she needs to be fired at the least because she has proven she can't be trusted with any of the animals.

Well it was her birds, her eggs she hatched..You have to know her to know her attitude and ways. She is very caring, she will not sell you a pet if she thinks you can't care for it. She has turned away college kids that wanted ferrets because they answered the questions wrong. You say small cage, I don't know how much they cost or food get bills she will tell them I will not sell to you. She did get me a bird! She brow beat this dealer , he said he saved it for a friend and she said to him i give you discounts and free stuff, this bird is going to nicer home than you are sending it to. So she called me and told me I have a bird! He is grey and white mix with yellow. I'm naming him Stormy(/with a ray of sunshine) I have to hand feed a few times a day, but he is almost weaned

I'm glad to hear you got another bird but, that lady should not have said the bird cooked its self .Animals don't cook themselves usually its attachments the pet owner who treats the animal poorly.

Like I said you have to KNOW her..Kyle and have been going to her for 3 years..She says things how it is. She fought to get me a MALE bird from a breeder that didn't want to give it up..She didn't have to do that for me. She could of said sorry, tough luck.. but we are loyal customers of hers and she knows we research our pets before we buy..She owns her own shop.

@Laurie, so it was the lady who owns the store, that seems even more unfortunate, could be she had too many things going on in the store and the baby just got overheated as result.Does the lady have anybody else working in the store with her?

Glad you got your bird and I hope you enjoy it. Now I just need to find a home for my 2 parakeets. They aren't tame though. I'm hoping to find someone with an aviary.

Maybe the lamp just malfunctioned and it wasn't the lady's fault?
