my new pet
So when my son has to stay over in macomb because of bad weather I go to his place and bird sit for a few hours. I let his cocktail out and it flies around the room lands on my shoulder , we have whistle conversation. Since my cat died I have been missing a pet that I can have bonding with. My crabs I don't have that. I don't play with them. They are treated like wild creatures. I don't want a dog or cat, it's to much. Dogs are hard to house train and you have to have someone to take them out and I don't think it's fair or right to make a dog sit and hold its pee all day or stick them out side in the cold , cats it's the litter and cat hair. I just now got all the hair up, littler is $$ and food is to. The bird is contained in the cage , easy to take care of , food is cheap and it can eat some of the foods crabs eat. ( human ) So I decided I'm going to get a bird. A cocktail. I should be able to pick him up in 2 weeks, he is hand raised. My cage should be here in a few days. Hoping it's a boy I want to name him Elvis.

@Laurie, congrats on the new pet, I've had a grey cockatiel named Bilbo Baggins since around 2004 and now he's old and cranky the only person who can even get close his cage is my mother he bonded with her out of everybody in the family. At one point we had him hand tamed and he was easy enough to handle but he got mean a few years ago and has since become completely feral you can't put your hand in the cage with him without risking being bitten and his wings haven't been clipped in so long that if he ever got out we'd never catch him again. We made the mistake of teaching ours to whistle instead of talk and according to the lady who owns the local pet store we destroyed his ability to learn to speak because we taught him to whistle first and basically the bird will either learn to talk or to whistle not both so we lost the chance to teach him to speak. These birds can live thirty some odd years in captivity so expect to have to give him to a younger family member because odds are he'll out live us both.lol

I keep talking to Kyle's saying pretty bird then whistling the tune Andy Griffin. He just looks at me when I talk to him but when I whistle he starts to whistle back. I don't think Kyle does much with his other than just lets him out and let's him fly. When I get Mine I will be working with it everyday. I told Kyle he needs to work with him. He said he gets really noisy at times don't you think maybe he wants your attention? Being out of the cage and just flying around isn't enough. They are social birds! I told him he should of stuck w a fish or a hamster
