Fantasy/Sci-fi fans?

I did hear of it, but I never saw it, I'm afraid. As for Star Trek, I used to watch TNG when I was younger. I still watch it on occasion if I see reruns on. Hehe, I was Dr. Crusher for Halloween when I was 7 or 8.

I'm quite a sci-fi and fantasy fan. Not surprising, perhaps, since I write it... LOL Ender's Game is an excellent book, although most of Card's stuff leaves me rather flat. From a quick glance at one of my MANY bookshelves: Robert A. Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, Larry Niven, Jack McDevitt, Mercedes Lackey, etc... All good authors, and worth reading. (I'd mention H.C. Schirtzinger, but who's ever heard of him? LOL)

Ah!I love Star Trek, I have been watching it since I watched TV. I really like Voyager but I never get to see it since no channels ever show it now. As for books, one of the best Scifi books I have ever really liked, since it was clean, and has the vocab for an adult was The Icarus Hunt by Timothy Zahn. He is a fabulous writer. I have a friend that recomened the Bartimaeus books but i always forget when i go to the library. Cornelia Funke is a fabulous writer, i have read all the books I can find that she has written. Robin McKinley is also fabulous. Douglas Adams is FANTASTIC but i think everyone knows that (for those of you that think the name doesn't really ring a bell, think Monty Python)Let's see, beyond that I can't really think of anything at the moment but there was several years there where everytime I went to the Library I came out with about 20 books, almost always fantasy or scifi, otherwise a historical fiction or mystery. Other authors:Christopher Paolini, read his trilogy!!(the third one isn't done yet)Robin McKinleyGregory MaguireDiana Pharoh FrancisLloyd AlexanderJane Yolen/Robert J. Timothy Zahn is awesome - the Star Wars trilogy he wrote was terrific.GreyRonin, I used to read a lot of Mercedes Lackey - I have to say that I wasn't really impressed with her writing ability, but she has one amazing talent. She can portray characters so well that you'd swear you'd recognize them if they passed you on the street. I haven't read any of her books in over ten years and I still remember most of the characters vividly. What a gift. How big is your collection? We used to have a ton of books - unfortunately our house was infected with toxic mold and we lost about 90% of them (and lots of other stuff, but the books were the major heartache - years worth of collecting). That was two years ago and we're only up to about three or four bookcases worth. Bleh, shouldn't think about it.

Like any good Library, mine keeps changing. It currently takes up seven of the eight walls in my office, floor to ceiling, packed full, with stacks in various sections around. As a bona fide packrat, I still have books from thirty years back in my collection. I'd guess...at least 25,000? The floor under my office underwent reinforcing years ago to keep my Library from being in the basement. As for Mercedes: Not every writer matches every person's taste. My tastes range fairly wide, from sci-fi to horror to fantasy to nonfiction, etc. Catalina: If you're looking for clean sci-fi, might I suggest Heinlein's Podkayne of Mars, or Alan Dean Foster's Nor Crystal Tears? The latter in particular is excellent, in my opinion.

I used to have a huge library, but moved and had to downsize. Now I'm a faithful user of http://www.paperbackswap.com/index.php. I love this site.I love Firefly! I still watch my DVDs whenever there's nothing on TV to watch (and my husband will let me - he doesn't like to rewatch things as much as I do). Another good show is The 4400, which will be starting up again next month. It's a summer show. This will be the third season. The first two seasons are available on DVD, so you can catch up if you want. They are short seasons being a summer show.Fantasy/Sci-fi books. I really liked Jane Yolen when I was around 12. (Devil's Arithmetic was a favorite for a short time) I haven't really read anything by her recently though. Maybe I should pick up something. Do you have any suggestions?

As I said, for me Briar Rose by Jane Yolen is a favorite. Another one I liked was Vampires. It's a collection of shortstories editted by Jane Yolen and she has one story in the collection.
