Yup... I found bookcrossing a few years ago... I love it. We have a local meeting here once a week and it's great to get out of the house and talk to other book nerds And we swap books while we are there. I've released books that have ended up in the Virgin Islands before!

quote: And, of course, there's the series she wrote under the pseudonym A. N. Roquelaure for the *really* adventurous. A warning, the books she wrote under that pseudonym are NOT suitable for children. No, they're not. *grins* Let's just say that when I say I'll read almost ANYthing...I'm not joking. Also on a more adult track, but in a different way, is David Drake's excellent "Hammer's Slammers" series. A man who actually lived through Viet Nam, with an amazing talent for writing, writing stories of war in the future. I'm incredibly impressed by him, and it was in fact some of his work that helped inspire my Time Corp stories. The violence in his stories are graphically real, taken mostly from his own wartime experiences. I highly recommend "Under The Hammer"; it's rare that a war story moves me the way it did.

Time Corp? Why is that ringing a bell in my head? Have you ever been published Grey? Wow, it's been even longer than I thought since I've read the Chronicles of Narnia, I don't remember *any* of this stuff! It's great, usually if I've ever read a book, I get maybe 10 or 12 pages into it and suddenly the whole thing pops up in my memory. Of course, with some of my favorite books, this is no hindrance. Like Jonathan Livingston Seagull. I can still quote whole pages at a time from that one, I've only read it 20 or 30 times....one of my favorite scenes from that one is when Jonathan has his originial insight into high speed flying.quote:There, in the night, a hundred feet in the air, Jonathan Livingston Seagull blinked. That's it, he thought, that's the answer I've been looking for! Short wings! A falcon's short wings! If I fold up most of my wings and fly on just the tips alone....short wings! Ok, sorry, I've got to stop reading these boards when I get home from work all tired and muzzy round the edges, I do have tendency to carry on.

Yes, Kittish, although only short stories. Someday when my health/work/life schedule allows, I'm hoping to get the four unfinished novels done....

Did you like it?I am back into series again. I need to read the third Redwall and The Chronicles of Chrestomanci Volumn II and another Discworld. I love Discworld. I just finished Equal Rites and loved the bit about the ants. That was great. I'm going to try and hit the bookstore tonight so I can get another! Woohoo!

I've been reading a trilogy by Ted Dekker. So far I've read "Red" and "Black". The last one is "White", but I don't have it yet. Anyone read these?

I love this thread and have written down several book titles. I think I am going to head out to the local Walden and look for the Discworld books. I was also very upset (tears and all) by the ending of HP 6. I keep thinking that there must be a redeeming opportunity that we are all unaware of...though what it could be I do not know. My oldest son is reading the book now and I know he will be very angry when he reaches the climactic parts of the book. I am anxiously awaiting the next movie release in November!!!I also read the Fionavar Tapestries Books by Guy Gavriel Kay. It has an Arthurian legend that runs through it...if you are interested in that story line. It was wonderful...I also cried when one of the characters died. I haven't seen those books in the book stores for a couple of years so Amazon might be the best way to find them.Speaking of Arthurian legends...one of my all time favorite books is the Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. There are several other Avalon books out by her as well. And since her death in 1999, Diana Paxson has picked up where she left off. All of the Avalon books were completely engrossing to me.Also, on the Arthurian trail (I love the legend...) is the Dragon Queen by Alice Borchardt and the Raven Warrior. Still waiting for book 3 in this trilogy.Katherine Kurtz is another fantasy writer who has several different series out. She is best known for the Deryni series of books which I personally loved. She also wrote a series of books called The Adept. The Terry Brooks Shannara series is good too. There is a young readers series on Merlin by T.A. Barron that I enjoyed immensely and then passed on to my son. He really likes them as well. My kids (10 & 8 years old) are big fans of the Secrets of Droon Series by Tony Abbott...for young fans of Harry Potter these books are similar in content and style and are at about a third grade reading level. Franny K Stein: Mad Scientist by Jim Benton has had my boys laughing out loud at her outrageous experiments. The Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne has also been big this summer for my kids. For my 5 year old daughter...well Care Bears and My Little Pony Books top the charts. Lately, though, my personal favorite author is a guy named Frank Peretti. He is known as a writer of Christian fiction. I have really enjoyed the good versus evil themes that run throughout his books as well as some of the cult themes he has researched. They are fascinating reading...fiction...and not preachy at all. Would love to hear more about everyone's summer reading...kids stuff too as my boys are always looking for more...

I finished reading the new Donna Leon this morning, I love her books. I not really into crime books, usually I get bored when I read more than two books from the same author, but the Commissario Brunetti-books are excellent. The next books on my reading list is the new Artemis Fowl and the diary of Anne Frank. I've read this before, but the oldest daughter of my BF is reading it, too, and I want to refresh my memory to be able to talk to her about it.

I got bored with the 5th HP book, so I quit reading the series...Anyway, You might want to try reading the "Series of Unfortunate Events" series if you havn't allready. They are really good and they arn't as unfortunate as the titles say they are.

Well I bought two more Discworld books Friday. I read Mort--so far my least favorite--and I'm reading Eric right now. I like Rincewind so I'm enjoying this book more. The bookstore needs to re-up its discworld books though. I am almost through with the ones they have in stock.I love Arthurian legends so I will have to check out those books. I read the first two in the Merlin series awhile back and wasn't impressed. Maybe I'll give them another shot. I Am Morgan Le Fey is a good Arthurian book. It tells Morgans perspective of things. The author also has one about Mordred's side of things but I haven't read it yet.

Kitty,You might really enjoy the Mists of Avalon as it is also told from Morgaine's perspective beginning with her childhood and continuing to after Arthur & Mordred's deaths. It's about 800 pages or so but for me it was virtually impossible to put down. Do you happen to know the author of the Mordred and Morgan Le Fey books? Thanks,Lori
