Favorite Childhood song?

I think we've had a topic like this before, but it was quite some time ago. I was just curious if you remember what the first song you sang when you were younger that wasn't a "kid" song. When I was about 4, maybe 5, I remember singing most of the words to James Taylor's version of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. My mom played a lot of music around the house (The Police's Message in a Bottle was my lullaby!) that's the first song I can remember knowing the words to. It's a pretty sad song, but to give you an idea, the chorus is:"Many a man would face his gun,and many a man would fall. The man who shot Liberty Valance,he shot Liberty Valance,He was the bravest of them all." Anyways, I was just wonderin' about you all.

My fave early song was by the Brotherhood of Man, "Save All Your Kisses For Me", way back from '76. It's such a sweet song; it's the first that I actually remember singing to:"Kisses for mesave all your kisses for meBye byebaby bye bye. Don't cry honeydon't cry.Gonna walk out the doorbut I'll soon be back for more"LOL They don't write 'em like that anymore...

I don't think I can remember that far back, but two songs that come to mind that my sister and I thought were cool were...Bohemian Rhapsody - this was always playing when we went ice skating andEye of the Tiger - it was one of my sisters songs for one of her dance routines LOL!I distinctly remember driving in the car with my mom, sister and my sisters friend blasting that song LMAO

The first one? You're not gonna make me think that hard, are ya? I can't remember that far back! Does Puff the Magic Dragon count? That's the first song I remember learning and singing a lot.Other than that, my best recollection is the songs from West Side Story, Honey, Seasons, Hey Jude and one about a girl in love with a boy named, Johnny, (I think) who crashes his car into a tree. Don't remember which came before which, but I don't think any of them were the first.

Okay, I had to edit my post because I answered before I read the whole thread and realize you're looking for songs we remember from 4 or 5.I remember singing this with my sister as the TOP of our lungs while swinging hard on the swings. It was what we thought Aretha Franklin was singing in "I Say a Little Prayer (for you)"This is Aretha's verse:"Forever, forever, you'll stay in my heart and I will love you Forever, forever we never will part Oh, how I'll love you Together, together, that's how it must be To live without you Would only be heartbreak for me."And this was ours:"Manella, Vanilla, your breaking my heart because I love youuuuu!Manella, Vanilla, I'll never be without you, cause you'd be a real treat for me!"Obviously I thought it was about ice-cream!Nicole, I loved that too and I remember being surprised to realize one day that it was about a 3yr old.

I'm only 18, so it wasn't THAT long ago, but my dad always had Fleetwood Mac on, and Tusk was my absolute favorite song. I even went around the house playing "drums" on things like chairs and boxes and stuff lol. However, the first songs I ever knew were Beatles songs, particulurly All Together Now from the Yellow Submarine album. Which I still listen to all this music, I don't go for the music today AT ALL. Queen, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, David Bowie, Tom Petty, oh I could go on and on lol.Oh and Rolling Stones, can't forget them lol. (Mick the betta is named after Mick Jagger )

Having an older brother and sister influenced me. I was the only kid in second grade who knew all the words to "Bohemian Rapsody". But you wanted something earlier. I can remember being 4 or 5 and singing "Tightrope" by ELO. My brother played ELO's A New World Record incessantly for a while during that time of my life.

Oh boy...the first song I can remember singing was "Islands In The Stream" by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, LOL "Islands in the stream, that is what we are,No one inbetween, how can we go wrong?Sail away with me, to another world,And we'll rely on each other, uh huhFrom another to another, uh huh..."I suddenly feel quite aged....

I also remember sitting on the end of the dock up at our cottage, singing "Puff the Magic Dragon" lol.. I didnt know all the words, but I loved the tune, so I'd just make the words up as I sang. When I was about 5 or 6, I remember a lot of Carole King songs, still like her. And Wildfire by Michael Martin Murphy. Ha, and Little River Band, Reminiscing and Afternoon Delight. Can you tell I was born in 1970?Neat thread, nice to walk down memory lane, especially back to such innocent days.***Edited: I had the wrong song NewCrabber, nevermind.

Ooh! Ooh! "Afternoon Delight" is still such an awesome song. Didn't used to know what it meant back then, though. I was born in '71.Crabby Abby, I didn't ever know "Kisses For Me" was about a 3-year-old. Wow. Duh! I always thought it was a romantic song. Now I have "I Say A Little Prayer" in my head. LOL

For a long time when I was younger I wanted a Mustang convertible, and the sole reason for it was because my mom used to play the song Mustang Sally when we were cleaning house. I liked the song a lot, so figured the car was probably pretty cool, too. Hehe Does anybody know the Genesis song "I Can't Dance" and that dance that went with it? My brother used to sing and do the silly walk when he was 3 years old. 'course he also used to sing Beauty and Beast in a really high voice, not hitting a single note. LOL! "I can't dance, I can't talk, the only thing about me is the way that I walk." Hehe

I used to sing Charlie Daniels, The Devil Went Down To Georgia when I was 4 or 5. I knew all the words!
