We started with round one Monday night and now we are in round two as the system which has been brining us so much rain has decided to turn to sleet and ice.The weather officials ate NOAA are saying that my state will likely be suffering major power outtages due to ice accumulations up to four inches in some places with an addition five to seven inches of snow expected in the northern region of the state.Where I'm at were only expecting maybe an inch of ice with an additonal inch to inch and half of snow so we are hoping and praying the powerlines and the trees hold out till this is over on Sat.I've already got my ten gallon iso ready to move into the living room where the fire place is incase we loose power for too long so that I can move my hermitcrabs to the warmest room in the house though my fish are in a tighter spot because water is a lot harder to insulate and keep warm not to mention the filtration and oxygenation systems will be offline which would only given them an hour maybe two window before needing to have the life support systems back on and running.Well fingers crossed that the power stays on and if not I'll see ya when it all blows over.

Ohhh, that would so suck to lose all your fish. If you move all your crabs to the room with the fireplace wouldn't you have to filter the air somehow or would they be ok breathing the smoky air?Fortunately we have been on the outskirts of these storms so far this year and haven't had near the problems you guys are. This week is actually warming up. It's been 40 the last couple days and supposed to get to low 60's this weekend. Hope you make it through ok. That bad weather has got to be playing havoc on the natives species though.

@jenok, yeah I don't relish the thought of loosing power but so far our trees and power-lines are holding strong and the worst of the storm has passed around four this afternoon. The wild birds have been huddling together on our back porch and have been attacking the bird feeder in our back yard for most of the day.I've taken some pictures of the ice and snow that we've had falling for the majority of the day.We got up to nearly and inch of solid ice on the trees and everything else thats outside and exposed and we are supposed to be getting some more snow tomorrow about three inches give or take according to the latest weather models.Almost two-hundred thousand people have lost power in the state so far and most have had power restored quickly though some who live in more remote locations have reported being without power for eight hours or more. Our fireplace doesn't have much a smoke issue so the air in the house tends to be pretty smoke free for the most part and I have a few places near the room that would be just as warm with a fire going that would be ideal spots for the iso/emergency tank to go until the power comes back on but I'm hoping I wont have to move them and like I said so far we've kept our power so fingers crossed we make it through the night with no problems. If we can make it through the night we should start to see conditions improving tomorrow and on into Fri and Sat.

I'm glad everything is ok so far and that everyone who lost power is getting it pretty quick back.A couple years ago we had some real bad ice storms. Some people were out of power for days almost a week. We were fortunate and only lost power for about 6-8 hrs. There were tons of debris from broken trees, downed lines and poles, wrecks, and insurance claims for homes and vehicles that were struck by falling debris. Nature is brutal at times but for good reason it keeps everything in check.

I've been reading a lot about power outages recently in different forums. Pets ranging from fish, hedgehogs, turtles and tarantulas share the cold weather fate..Stay safe and stay warm there my American friends!

Well crabber I guess since I PM you yesterday you made it thru without to much trouble. Glad you didn't freeze to death.Oh did you participate in the canceled Valentines day that I read about on yahoo? I think it was part of Georgia (or maybe it was Florida) where they jokingly canceled V-day to help keep people off the roads since they were still icy.

@jenok, It was GA that extended Valentines days because of the weather but as I'm single and unemployed I didn't get to participate.Yeah we had some seriously nasty weather my mother got stuck at work for three days had to sleep on the floor in her office, she's the staffing and development cordinator for a rehab/nursing facility so since shes considered management she was made to come in and stay incase the facility lost power or the sprinkler system burst again and the residents had to be evacuated.Everything turned out fine for us we never lost power and we had plenty to eat.

Last week we got up to 5 inches then Saturday it started snowing again we got about 3, then Sunday was fine roads were clear half way decent but they were saying freezing rain / snow after midnight sunday. Told my son Sundays you better pack a bag and take to work and just stay over cause Monday morning you won't be able to drive to work in a car. He stayed and yes we had nasty sleet and we lost power for 2 hours. Threw a ton of blankets over the crab tank , called the people that were supposed to come look at my dryer and canceled , had Darryl come get me and take me to Kyle's so I could check on his ferrets since he spent the night at work. It rained, sleeted, and snowed til 12:30 then quit and started warming up a bit, I put coveralls on and went walking by Tuesday it has hit about 40! Things are melting. Thursday we are supposed to get rain and thunder storms!
