I'm doing it this time.
Some off you might remember last year around April I posted that I was counting cals and going to lose weight. Well I did really good wathching what I ate for about a month and a half losing only 2 lbs. So that discouraged me and I basically quit. I'm still kinda confused cuz I still watched what I ate as in not eating as much as I used to but by the end of the year gained around 17 lbs. About 10 lbs in December though I didn't gorge myself on the holidays if anything it was less than what I usually do. So like I said I'm still lost as to why I gained. Here's my new plan: I have almost completely replace my diet sodas with water though I still need to figure out how to drink more, cuz I only drink about 3 1/2 16.9oz bottles a day. I have started doing the 30min - 2mile walk with Leslie Sansone on you tube while I'm at work(I'm the only one here) this way no one sees me. I'm not counting my cals but I've restricted my diet a little more and trying to eat more veggies. Hopefully this works and I can start surprising everyone in the next couple of months. I've been doing this since Tues. so wish me luck. I think I'm also going to get my thyroid checked just to make sure nothing is wrong.

Good luck! It is a difficult thing to manage sometimes especially if you have underlying thyroid issues. Make sure they check more than just the TSH, T3 & T4 available and uptakes as well as antibodies are good to check to be sure.I found an App I really like called My Fitness Pal. It allows you to see what nutrients you are high or low on as well as keeping track of calories and what kind of calories. I discovered I was sorely lacking in protien and potassium and that on the days I was very low on calories, I lost all control over sugar consumption the next day. I am heathier, even in the short term, if I eat enough. Being a long time deprivation dieter has skewed my relationship with food and having that kind of information and realizing I needed more food, I have actually undone some of the damage I have done in years past and lost a bit of weight too.

Now you are on the right track. Stop all soda! Remember all sugar is sugar no matter what name you give it, just cause it says 0 calories doesn't mean it's good for you. It can be loaded with sugar. Try slam drinking room temp water, it goes down easier & you can do a glass an hour. I only drink water and unsweetened tea. I eat what I want, yes at times I go over board and at Christmas I logged out on chocolate!!! For me my trick is not having the junk food in the house, I get bored I want to eat, I get depressed I want to eat, but it's mostly it's those darn sweets that get me!also do Leslie sansone I will do the 5 mile so I can get the fast pace in but when it hits the mile I quit. I get to hurting. If it's nice out or half way decent out I bundle up and will go walking for an hour. If your just standing do knee lifts touching your knees, do the sansone moves. I have flucuate between 180-185 now. I'm not a veggie eater so you don't have to load up on them to lose just cut back, and cut the sugars only have them once in awhile. Pop is a big no no. Your body will detox and you will lose it fast! Give it one month, just one month and you will lose over 20!

I'm hoping so, last time I tried to cut out pop and managed to cut down but still was drinking 2 cans a day. This time I have about 1 can every other day sometimes every 3rd day. I am wanting to work up to the 5 mile one but I think its going to be a few weeks before I can keep up. I'm exhausted at the end of the 2 mile. I think I'm going to try the 2 mile for another week or 2, then the 3 mile for about 3 weeks, then on to the 5 mile I hope.Last time I was using the my fitness pal and it came up with the cals I needed I think it was 1400 a day and at the time that was less than half what I normally ate so I usually had between 1400-1800 cals a day and still didn't lose any weight. I haven't been back on since. I may try to get back on though and try just logging everything. If I do how do I look u up?

I started MyFitnessPal as a way to prove to my doctor that I wasnt over eating that he had overdosed me on the thyroid suppressing meds which caused me to go extremely low thyroid. He ended up with blood work that proved it to him. Basically all I do is keep track of what I am doing so I see the areas that are out of balance. I was able to see the pattern in the bingeing on sugar after the deprivation day. I have not been good about getting there since Christmas but really need to start tracking again. My user name is PegBigger. I assume that would be how you find me there.

@jenok, not trying to be nosy but as women age the hormones responsible for regulating weight, sleep and mood get thrown off and new harmful hormones get secreted which literally cause fat storage to begin and actually sabotages diets.Have you tried augmenting your routine with Garcinia Cambogia you can get it in pill form over the counter at the pharmacy but make sure the bottle says it only contains GCE or Garcinia Cambogia Extract if the bottle lists any fillers then the GCE will be at a much lower concentration and wont work.GCE is a naturally occurring substance found in the rind of a South American fruit called tamarind.GCE actually boosts your metabolism and blocks over half of the fat you eat on a daily basis from being stored in your body.Green tea, Coffee Beans, Acai berry and Raspberry Ketone all come in pill form over the counter and all of them have significant weight loss benefits that help to manage and reduce body weight naturally and effectively. As with GCE make sure the bottle for each of the above listed only list the primary ingredient and no fillers.Diet drinks also help to sabotage diets because the artificial sweeteners used don't work the same on the brain as natural sugars and as such don't satiate the brain's need for sugars which is the only food source the brain uses, instead the artificial sugars actually cause the brain to be re-wired which increases the consistency and length of your sugar cravings because the fake sugars are actually popping your sweet tooth instead of satisfying it like natural sugars would you end up with an endless sugar craving which has you doing the very thing you were trying to avoid snacking constantly and more so on sweets than any other snack food. All in all diet drinks are way more harmful than helpful to the body as they accomplish nothing healthy and end up causing you to gain more weight in the end.The artificial sugars used in most diet drinks have been linked to several types of cancers including liver, kidney, ovarian and even breast cancer after the person has been exposed to these fake sugars for a lengthy period of time. These fake sugars are made up of chemicals that when broken down by the body turn into other things mostly harmful which is why people who drink diet drinks on a daily basis for years tend to have a much higher chance for developing the above listed cancers.

@crabber I thought those were just some gimic for weight loss like a "diet" pill. However since reading your post I will try these when I get my pay check Friday and shop on Sunday. I knew about the bad diet soda, but I had started before they were considering it bad for you and it became a habit, my brain was trained thinking it was better. I have got to do something. I should weigh about 135 but I actually weigh 255 so if I don't fix it something somewhere is going to give and I can't afford to have health problems, diabetes & stroke run in the family some. I think my wake up call was seeing the additional weight on the scale plus realizing that my mom now weighs less than I do which has never happened since I was born. I have always considered her obese since I was in junior/high school but the last few years even more so trying to get her to lose then realizing that I weigh more than her was really a blow. The only difference is she is shorter then I am making her bigger around still. She weighs 245 and has lost a few lbs over the last couple of months. Thanks for your input crabber even if it is awkward coming from a guy.

Those green coffee pills and other things don't do anything but take your money. I have tried them! I have been allergic and broke out in hives with one. I don't count calories, never did. I just cut the pop and sugars and walked and rode my bike. Drank water. My friend spent hundreds and j mean hundreds of dollars with weight watchers. She got all the stuff and she could of stopped there and done it all herself but she felt like needed to have strangers approval saying yeah, go Joann you lost 1 pound and pay 13$ for that hip hip huuray. I told her I don't need strangers to tell me every week good job, I am doing this for me. It takes a good month for you drop the 20 if cut out all pop and a lot of sugary stuff, suck water like there is no tomorrow and do some sort of excercize for at least 30 min. A day . You will probably never see those high school weights again if you are old and moldy like me, but losing it to get healthier is better.

@Laurie, the pills I mentioned in my earlier post are not for everybody and have to be combined with portion control, exercise and the proper amount of sleep. My mother ran a weight loss clinic back in the nineties and knows what to do to loose weight but she looses a few lbs and then hits a plateau where she just wont loose anymore and thats because her body has disallowed the loss of any more weight by turning off the mechanism responsible for burning calories. When you first start any diet your body goes into starvation mode where you will drop a few ounces to lbs but then that mode is shut down by the body and you literally stop loosing weight which is why most of the current diets out there today Do Not Work and are considered yo yo diets. You have to find the right balance between portion/calorie control, exercise and sleep for yourself to optimize your weight-loss.I'm 5'7 and weigh just over 190lbs this is down from 226lbs a year ago.I've been able to loose the weight and keep it off because I've been able to find the balance between the three things mentioned earlier.Adults between the ages of 20 and 40 need to have nine to ten hours of sleep a night, if you can get the recommended amount of sleep your body will start to reduce the levels of a diet sabotaging stress induced hormone called Cortisol.Cortisol aka Hydro-cortisone which is a hormone in the steroid family that is produced by the body in response to stress. This hormone causes inflammation of the joints, fatigue and uncontrollable weight gain.Your body can flush this hormone but you first have to get enough sleep as sleep is the number one stress reducer. After you have gotten this hormone to a lower more acceptable level you'll begin to see a huge increase in weight loss.High levels of Cortisol in blood tests often times indicates the presence of an adrenal gland issue that may need medication to resolve.

I think my sleep is ok. I go to bed anywhere from 9:30 to 11:30 (10-10:30 being usual) fall asleep usually in 15 min., then get up Mon-Fri at 6:10 to get my daughter to the bus. If I work that morn (tue & thur) I get ready then leave about 7:15 if I don't work til noon I go back to sleep til 9 or 9:30. Sat. I get up at 5:40am and leave by 6:15am (usually in bed at 10 the night before). Sun and mon are my days off sleep til 9 or 9:30. I don't think it will hurt to try. My mom had started taking one with green coffee bean and raspberry ketones and says it seems to be what is helping her. Funny thing is I had bought it for me and took about 5 pills but couldn't remember to take them regular, she sees the bottle and starts taking them(after asking me) and loses a few lbs (cuz she remembers to take them). We'll see what happens. I hate the fact that it seems like every time I try to watch what I eat no cake, cookies, junk food that's when everyone else starts getting it so then it on the counter or shelf saying "eat me eat me" very hard to keep control that way. It doesn't do any good to say anything cuz then there's even more of it, though they don't do it on purpose. Its easier to avoid if its not in my face all the time. I can say no at the store but its a lot harder at home. Fortunately I'm having beans for lunch and dinner so I'm able to eat a small piece of cake with out to much guilt.

quote:portion control, exercise and the proper amount of sleep. and with water right there is all you need, no spending money.. read side effects to if you plan on taking these..you will lose the weight if you want to and willing to, save the money for new clothes! I know about the starvation mode, I know what it is to have that om god I am starving to death feeling to, I have learned if I feel hungry I get up go do something that takes some time and sometimes that breaks it, or I will drink a glass of room temp water, slam it! if that doesnt help them eat a nanner or a apple. in a few weeks your guts will shrink and you won't be hungry any more like that. I don't yo yo I have been the same now for a year, I don't diet. I changed my eating habits and drinking. if you have fibro you can kiss the sleep good bye, not taking anymore drugs than I have to..right now I a starving, my guts are gurgling saying feed me feed me laurie, but I still have 2 hours of work, so I will go drink more water go clean the clinic then figure out whats for supper, that will be in 2 and half hours and I won't be hungry any more cause I will of worked and got my mind off it for a while and drank water, any way you do it, just be healthy and wise o.k.

Um may I weigh in on this?In my opinion. Avoid anything that has caffeine in it. It may "raise your metabolism," true... But it also make the heart muscles more prone to arrythmia. Combined with low blood sugar from eating less, you are asking for heart trouble. If you want to raise metabolism, exercise. But remember that will make you hungry. So unless you are willing to go through some hunger, you might as well not do it. There is no way to feel good while dieting. Overeating feels good, period. To say otherwise is to delude yourself. So this whole project takes:1) Determination.or2) Nothing better to do with your time.ORyou need Coach Tiederman, the wrestling coach to scare you so bad that you lose your appetite (He makes you weigh in every day).ORIf you are not lucky enough to be on the wrestling team or the Marines or something like that, the next best thing is just say nuts. You do not want people to chase after you for your body anyway. It's for stupid, short sighted people, (and naturally goodlooking people like me). What you REALLY want is for them to chase after you because you are wealthy. See? Let THEM diet and feel bad. You be the rich one who worked hard instead of dieting and then YOU break THEIR hearts.

Very funny I agree except when I walk the less than 1/8 mile (more like 200yds) distance from work to the bank and I am out of breath I know I have to change and lose at least some weight. I haven't severely restrained my self on what I eat just paying more attention to what and how much of it I eat (I figure roughly 40% fewer calories of what I was and 20% fewer carbs of what I was). I'm drinking water mostly with pop about 3x a week and coffee with a little flavored creamer (used to fix with sugar and a moderate amount of creamer) about 3x a week. Doing the 2mile/34 min fitness walk with Leslie Sansone still 4x a week. I need to think of something to do at home on my days off and not look suspicious so no one realizes what I'm doing until I start losing some noticeable weight. However I am more active doing things outside (chores and such)when I'm off work at home. I have lost 2 lbs so far in less than 2 weeks so hopefully I can continue that or more maybe?

@Keg, here is a link to a fact sheet covering green coffee beans and why the extract is so good for our health.Essentially caffeine has its health benefits but only when used in moderation and the caffeine content of the green coffee bean extract so low enough not to pose a threat but high enough to have medicinal value. While exercise may boost the metabolism of healthy adults and children it is not a one size fits all deal as there are certain medical conditions that completely negate the metabolism boosting effects of manual exercise so medication is required in order to amplify the effect in people who have thyroid disorders or other glandular issues.Cyan pepper is a natural metabolism booster as are Green Tea and Acai Berries.I know I need to loose weight and its not to attract a possible mate but for my own health as heart attack, stroke and diabetes run in my family and being overweight only increases my chances of falling victim to one or more of these.I already have hypoglycemia which is a blood sugar disorder, I've developed adult onset asthma and have joint pains all of the time because of my weight.

Well I have lost a total of 7lbs off my night weight and 3lbs off my morning weight which is kinda confusing anyone care to explain this?I started to fall off the bandwagon and I ate more fatty/sugary foods than I should have this last 1 and a half a didn't get my exercise in like I should've but I caught it and hopefully can get back on track before its too late. I still am doing better with my portion control though so that was probably a saving grace when I was eating the ice cream and cake the other day. At least I'm not gorging myself like I use to. I think I did gain a lb or 2 but then I lost it I think course its hard to tell and it just so happens that its the dreaded time of month so that may be why I ate more bad foods than I should've. I'll update again later this week when I weigh on Thursday night Friday morn.
