Monday night temps dropped and the pipes burst.

Post by Crabber85 » Thu Jan 09, 2014 7:44 pm

Monday night the temps dropped to 1 degree with a wind chill of -0.The hot water tank sits in a cubby space in the garage so the supply for the front exterior faucet runs across the garage ceeling and down the wall to meet the faucet. This particular supply line froze up in ceeling and then burst early Tues morning when the pipe started warming and thawing out so we ended up with a hole in the wall and a flooded garage. The pipe and damaged sections of ceeling and wall wont be fixed till the spring. From what I gather the state set a new record for lowest temp in Jan and we had 300+ cases of burst pipes on Mon night alone.

Oh, that is awful! At least the garage will be easier to clean up, still no fun but easier. My Dad's friend's house in VA burst a pipe right over the living room, also on Tuesday. They were out of town and Dad was checking on their house. Crazy weather. I am going to go around and thank my pipes for behaving nicely...CT gets freezing weather every winter so we have set ups that are insulated and such, it has still been a rough winter of burst water mains and so forth. Let's hope we are done with the crazy weather, I would like to put in my request for an early spring this year.

Yes we were lucky our pipes froze but didn't burst. We were able to thaw them and ws only without water for 1/2 a day.In Tulsa OK which is fairly close to where I live they had 20+ main city lines break last night. Which leaves a big mess/hazard on the roads and a lot of people without water till its fixed no word on how many pipes broke in the peoples homes. At least you were lucky in the fact it was the garage and didn't destroy a lot of stuff in your home. Good Luck getting everything cleaned up.

Our town has water main breaks popping all over. My sister in law cleans the annex that connects to her apartment well she couldn't sleep at 3in the morning so she decided to go clean and walked in flooded floors, had to call the owner. When we lived in the trailer our pipes froze if someone blew on them. Now we have the upstairs sink freeze once in awhile, just have to open the door and it infuses fast..it's hot upstairs. Today it is going to get 45 degrees, break out the shorts
